Surprise Announcements at SCR's 50th Anniversary Gala

The Orange County Register's Paul Hodgins reported that at last weekend's 50th Anniversary Gala for South Coast Repertory, two major announcements were made.  Paul Folino (above right), whose $10 million gift in 2002 was then the largest made to a regional theatre, asked that the Folino Theatre Center hereafter be named after SCR's founders David Emmes and Martin Benson.

The same evening, Julianne Argyros made the surprise announcement that she and her husband George (above left) were making a $2 million gift to the theatre.  The gala itself netted $1 million for SCR.  What a way to kick off their 50th season!

Anaheim's Chance Theater Breaks Ground on New Space

Chance Theater staff members Masako Tobaru, Oanh Nguyen, Erika C. Miller, Jeff Hellebrand and Casey Long (left to right) celebrate the expansion of their facilities at a recent Hard Hat Party.  They will move into a new theater that will double the square footage and has the potential to triple the seating capacity.  This major news from the Chance comes after months of strategic planning and successful fundraising efforts, with $235,000 of the first phase's $465,000 goal raised thus far.  The Chance is slated to move into its new home in time to kick off its 2014 Season in February.   The new space is located at the opposite end of the parking lot of their existing facility on La Palma Avenue in Anaheim, and will allow them to expand programming, create a more comfortable experience for audiences and artists, and help ensure their long-term operation and fiscal stability.  The expanded theater is designed with the intention to meet ticket demand (the Chance has been playing at an average 94% capacity for the last three years), offer additional education outreach programs, and truly allow the company to spread its wings.
