Assemblyman Tom Daly: The Arts Are "Beyond Worthy" of Increased State Funding
Assemblyman Tom Daly (above left) with ArtsOC Executive Director Rick Stein, pledged his support for increased state arts funding during an Assembly Budget Subcommittee meeting he chaired recently. Daly was elected in November of 2012 to represent California's 69th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Santa Ana, Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Orange. Born and raised in the 69th District, he is a graduate of Anaheim High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University in 1976. He has previously served as Mayor of the City of Anaheim as Orange County Clerk-Recorder. During a visit to Assemblyman Daly's open house, artworks by District 69 constituents were on display in his Anaheim office. |

New Community Theatre Opening in Dana Point
A new community theatre is preparing to open in Dana Point. Led by Yolanda and John Kalb, Artistic Director and Technical Director, it is in the process of securing a location for its presentations. The Kalbs previously ran the Sunshine Brooks Theatre in Oceanside for 6 years but also have been involved in South Orange County theatres like Camino Real in San Juan Capistrano. Vivant Theatre is the name they've selected for their operation, which is officially incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the name New Vision Theatre Company. They are recruiting volunteers and have a fundraising event coming up soon. More details here.
