4 Orange County Organizations Awarded NEA Grants

 

Today, the National Endowment for the Arts announced its second round of fiscal year 2013 Art Works grants, and four Orange County organizations succeeded in securing funds in the highly competetive process.  The NEA's full announcement may be found here.

   

Arts Orange County

$20,000 Santa Ana, CA

FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Local Arts Agencies

To support the annual Dia del Nino in Santa Ana, California. Designed to celebrate the artistic and cultural heritage of Orange County's Latino community, the festival will feature interactive arts workshops and performances by local and regional artists and arts organizations.

 

Chapman University

$20,000 Orange, CA

FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater & Musical Theater

To support a tour of Andrew Carroll's If All the Sky Were Paper. Fountain Theatre will collaborate to produce the play adapted from Carroll's books War Letters and Behind the Lines in which letters from wars and conflicts ranging from the American Revolution through the present-day reveal the full spectrum of human emotions during American conflicts.

 

Pacific Symphony (aka Orange County's Pacific Symphony)

$50,000 Santa Ana, CA

FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music

To support Rite of Spring Turns 100, a performance and outreach project celebrating the work by composer Igor Stravinsky. Under the direction of Music Director Carl St. Clair and Artistic Advisor Joseph Horowitz, the program will offer performances, a free, outdoor video concert simulcast on a public plaza, an exhibit with digital video, and student programs.

 

Philharmonic Society of Orange County (aka Philharmonic Society)

$50,000 Irvine, CA

FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting

To support a multidisciplinary production of Mozart's Acis and Galatea. In collaboration with Cal Performances, the new production will bring together the Mark Morris Dance Group and the the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Chorale, costume designer Isaac Mizrahi, scenic designer Adrianne Lobel, and lighting designer Michael Chybowski.

ArtsOC Teams with El Centro Cultural de Mexico for Second Year of "Dia del Nino" - This Sunday - Admisson Free

Honoring youth & celebrating childhood through the arts during a day of free performances & participatory arts activities for all ages, ArtsOC and El Centro Cultural de Mexico are collaborating for a second year in the presentation of Dia del Nino. The all day festival will begin at 10 am with a Butterfly March starting at Santa Ana Plaza (321 East Fourth Street, near Fourth & French), a colorful and musical procession through downtown Santa Ana ending up at Birch Park, the site of the festival. Throughout the day there will be free workshops, activities and performances, including visual arts, music, theatre, dance, writing and more.
