The Wooden Floor Wins MetLife Afterschool Innovator Award


 
 

The Wooden Floor was selected as one of five organizations nationally to win the prestigious 2012 Afterschool Innovator Award from the Afterschool Alliance and the MetLife Foundation. This specific award recognizes The Wooden Floor's innovative work integrating dance education with academics and social services to help under-served students become successful in school and life.  Among some 500 organizations who applied for the award, The Wooden Floor was the only arts-based youth development organization to be recognized.

Berenika Schmitz

Named Kennedy Center Fellow

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced that Berenika Schmitz has been selected as a 2012-13 De Vos Institute of Arts Management Fellow.  Schmitz, a concert pianist who trained at Juilliard, Harvard, Oxford and the Royal Academy of Music in London, serves as the executive & artistic director of the two year old Dana Point Symphony.
