Why Support Project Grad?

In short, Project Grad provides SAFETY. Inaugurated in 2004, PG is a highly anticipated tradition for every class of IRHS students. More than 90% of IRHS seniors attend on their graduation night. Our goals is to provide an event where graduates celebrate together as a class for the last time while parents sleep soundly knowing that their son/daughter is safe and having a great time.

Our tradition is part of a larger national movement. This program, developed by the US Department of Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Board more than 30 years ago, is conducted in cities across the United States. Here are some reasons why so many communities give their seniors a grad night.

Project Grad removes alcohol and drugs from the celebration equation. Here are some reasons why(scroll down to "How to Answer...." section) it is important to spend time/money to decrease substance abuse on one night, even though some kids abuse substances all year. Here are some more information on why (see bottom p. 5 on link).

Keeping graduation night safe for graduates and the larger community is the foundation for why so much time and effort is put into Project Grad each year. An added bonus of all our efforts is the community building that happens in the process. This too makes a difference that creates positive ripples benefiting us all. Hundreds and hundreds of people and organizations contribute to make Project Grad possible.

ART MURAL

 ART MURAL

The Art Club has been working devotedly and creatively to creating a one-of-a-kind nighthawk mural to be built in the breezeway of our school. It is a unique opportunity to bring to light the creative talents of our students and leave a lasting effect on the school. The mosaic will be of a nighthawk flying over a sunset sky and mountains.

ANY AND ALL IRHS students, staff, parents, and faculty can carve a permanent footprint in this mural. We are selling slabs of the mural (about the palm of your hand) for $5 for you to carve your name or design into. No ceramic experience or expertise is necessary-we will help you create a beautiful piece. We will slow dry the slabs pieces with your name or design and glaze the pieces. This is a unique opportunity to leave your mark on the school forever.  The process can take 1-15 minutes depending on how elaborate you would like your design to be.

The accommodate all who wish to participate in this fundraiser (all proceeds will go to the art club) we have several dates for you to purchase and carve your piece:
IRHS Parents, Community, Students & Staff:

  • Thursday and Friday March 5th and 6th in Ms. Mulleneaux's room (E103) from 3:45pm-4:45pm.

IRHS Students & Staff:

  • March 4th and 5th during conference (tables will be set up by the front office).

If you have any questions about the mural or would like to volunteer please contact Ms. Mulleneaux at dmulleneaux@amphi.com or call 407-4228.
