Principal Szolowicz Presents....
(and NPO Board Elections)

TONIGHT! Mon April 22nd
7:00 pm
IRHS Library Lecture Hall

Common Core -- PARCC -- "Blended Learning" Programs -- Parent/Teacher Collaboration -- Freshman Success -- Accomplishments Made in the Spirit of "The Movement"

Tonight NPO will host a give-and-take evening -- parents can both become better informed with changes at IRHS, and then turn around and better inform administration about their perspective.

During the first portion of the evening, Principal Szolowicz will, in the spirit of "The Movement" introduced last Fall, present an overview of accomplishments and changes that happened this year. In addition, he'll review efforts regarding Common Core Curriculum and the upcoming PARCC assessments. He'll also emphasize transitions to more in-depth informational text reading across the curriculum, a shift to a new model of higher level thinking, Webb's Depth of Knowledge, and some "blended learning" programs the staff is planning on implementing.

Following his presentation, he'll ask for small group discussion regarding three areas of particular interest to the IRHS leadership team heading into next year:

  • The Common Core Curriculum and PARCC Assessments
  • Parent and Teacher Collaboration for Student Success
  • Freshman Success

In each of these areas, they want to hear from the parent's perspective about what is working, what to modify, and any other creative ideas to improve student achievement. The results of the discussions will be used by the IRHS leadership team in setting goals for next year.
