As you may have heard, there was a tragic shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut this morning. Whenever an event like this happens, it raises parents' and educators' levels of concern. None of us ever wants to have to deal with an event like this. Safety is our number one priority.
We never want to create an environment at our schools where our children are fearful. Our staff is well trained and prepared for emergency situations. Please know that all our schools have emergency plans in place. They practice monthly fire drills and quarterly lock-down drills. Emergency contact information is readily available to appropriate personnel on each campus.
We have been notified by local law enforcement that they intend to have an increased presence around our schools. You may, therefore, notice police vehicles parked near or on school grounds. Please do not be alarmed by this. In addition, we have asked our schools to have an increased staff presence on the campuses during student arrival and dismissal and to review their safety plans.
