Congratulations to our first official historians at IRHS!

Special congratulations to eight outstanding IRHS students who were recognized yesterday at Arizona State University for their copyrighted stories in the publication, "Since You Asked." They are Olivia Nielsen, Paul Wrona, Jesse Wealing, Holly Durr, Molly Hansen, David Finley, Glynis Facciano, and Maggie Mang. These students received a special commendation from the Director of the Veterans History Project in Washington DC, Colonel Patrick, for also having their stories recorded in the Library of Congress.

New Superintendent Named

Mr. Patrick Nelson has just been appointed Amphitheater School District's new superintendent. Already very familiar with Amphi, Nelson currently serves the district as Assistant Superintendent of Operations. He was chosen over the other two finalists: Dr. Steve Chestnut, currently Superintendent of Selah School District, in Selah, WA; and Dr. Patrick Sweeney, currently Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Support-Secondary, in Arizona's Paradise Valley School District.  
 

 


Progress Reports Distributed Earlier This Week

The final progress reports of the spring semester were distributed in 4th hour classes on Monday, April 23, 2012. If there is a discrepancy between the Parent Portal and the distributed progress report, the Parent Portal will be more up-to-date. Questions regarding your child's progress should be directed first to your child's teacher(s). Your child's counselor can also be of assistance. Click here for faculty and staff phone numbers. Optimist Oratorical Contest, May 2nd

The Optimist International Oratorical competition is slated for May 2nd. The contest is open to students under the age of 18 as of December 31 of the current school year who have not yet graduated from high school or its equivalent. Students are required to prepare a 4- to 5-minute speech on a pre-assigned topic and provide them with an opportunity to compete for a $2500 scholarship. This year's topic: "How My Optimism Helps Me Overcome Obstacles." Application are in the counseling office. 
 

 


Final IRHS Music Concert  - May 8th

The IRHS Music Department is holding its final music concert of the year next Tuesday, May 8th at 7pm in the IRHS Auditorium. This lively event will features the Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Advanced Jazz Band. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Information about the 2012-13 Marching Band Season and Ironwood Ridge Music Association will be available.   Questions? STUGO Fundraiser for IRHS Teacher in Need - May 19th

IRHS's Student Government has organized a fundraiser for English teacher Theresa Chavez's husband, who critically needs a liver transplant. They are hosting a car wash/craft fair/Rock-the-Ridge event to raise as much money as possible to help the Chavez's secure the funds necessary to move forward with necessary medical procedures. The event is May 19th from 8am - 12pm. In addition to participating in the STUGO event, individuals can make direction donations by visiting www.helphopelive.org and enter "Timothy Chavez" in the "Find a Patient" box on the home page. Summer Theatre Program, Ages 11-18

Mr. Canalia, IRHS Theatre Instructor, is directing a summer theatre program at IRHS. Anyone between the ages of 11 and 18 is invited to join to produce and perform J.R. R. Tolkien's famous "Lord of the Rings" prequel "The Hobbit" on the IRHS stage this June. This exciting show takes us on an incredible journey where we meet Hobbits, Dwarves, and Elves. We'll even battle a terrible fire-breathing dragon!. The program runs from June 11-28th, Monday - Thursdays. Discounted Tickets to Broadway in Tucson's "Mary Poppins"

IRHS Theatre Booster Club is selling discounted tickets to Broadway in Tucson's "Mary Poppins." Tickets are still available for Wednesday May 16th (7:30pm show) and Sunday May 20th (6:30pm show). Seats in AA-BB are $30 a ticket; Seats in K-N are $70 a ticket. This is a great deal--normally they are $45 and $96. Contact Kim Fioccoprile to get your tickets: spottydog1@earthlink.net
