I. Terrific Input Received For South Carolina 4/30/13 Wish List

Lady's Island Marina Once again, the cruising community has responded MAGNIFICENTLY to our requests for information contained within our South Carolina Wish List of 4/30/13. And, yet again, the Salty Southeast Cruisers' Net owes a HUGE debt of gratitude to the Cruising Community for their generosity and willingness to share information in such a timely fashion! Your fellow cruisers are the chief beneficiary of this largess. In short, WE ALL WIN!

Port Royal Landing Marina SSECN Senior Editor, Captain Larry Dorminy, and yours truly have spent the entire week posting these many replies. The vast majority of the marinas and anchorages along the path of the AICW from Savannah River north to the South Carolina - North Carolina state line at Calabash Creek, have now been updated with this voluminous, fresh news. And, all of this input has been published as BOTH "Cruising News" articles, AND reviews of the various marinas and anchorages!

Downtown Beaufort Marina Stand by for a "North Carolina Wish List," which will be on its way to your in-box within a week or so. And, by the way, we promise this will our last "Wish List' for a little while, but, with the spring transient migration still underway, we just can't resist gleaning as much info on the Tar Heel coastline as possible.

Below, we have provided links to the "Cruising News" articles for those South Carolina Wish List queries which we think will be particularly useful to cruisers. Click on any topic to learn LOTS more!

III. UPDATE: Nighttime Restrictions on Gilmerton Bridge Extended to May 31, 2013, AICW Statute Mile 5.8

Isle of Palms Marina Gilmerton Highway Bridge crosses the Waterway just south of Norfolk and has been the subject of much attention since the construction and resulting number of closures began last fall. Cruisers' Net has had a Navigation Alert posted for this area for several months.

Now, we have received official word that these nighttime closures will be extended until at least 5/31/13.

IV. May River and Bluffton (off Calibogue Sound, near AICW St. M. 559.5)

Skull Creek Marina May River, a beautiful stream to explore on a fair weather day, cuts west off the AICW's trek through northern Calibogue Sound, west of Waterway marker #29. The river channel is fully marked all the way upstream to the historic community of Bluffton. There is just barely room to anchor abeam of the town waterfront.

In the article linked below, Captain Roger Long gives any true cruiser good reason to explore upstream to Bluffton.

V. St. Lucie Inlet Buoys Repositioning Underway, near AICW Statute Mile 987

St. Lucie Inlet intersects the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the eastern genesis of the Okeechobee Waterway near Stuart, FL at AICW Statute Mile 987. The repositioning of aids to navigation described in the article linked below below refers to buoys in the Inlet, not the Waterway.

VII. Repairs on US 74/76 Bridge in Wrightsville Beach Extended, AICW Statute Mile 283.1

The US 74 Bridge, which spans the AICW in the heart of Wrightsville Beach, NC, has a closed vertical clearance of 20ft. Repairs to this bridge were originally scheduled to end May 1, but have now been extended. The reduced horizontal clearance caused by this maintenance work will not affect most cruisers, but the movements of the barge and crane might.

VIII. Florida Keys Summer, 2013 Festivals and Events

The list of Florida Keys Summer events linked below was provided to us by SALTY SOUTHEAST CRUISERS' NET SPONSOR, Key Lime Sailing Club. So, before launching into the listing of events, it's only fair to first hear from these good folks! Please click their sponsorship panel in the below linked article for more information!

Dolphin Cove Marina It should be noted that the Florida Keys are no longer a winter-time only setting. As will be obvious from the exciting line-up linked below, there is much to see and do during the summer months in the Florida Keys, and that goes for members of the cruising community as well.

That's all for now. Good luck and good cruising to all!
