Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Monday, January 21st
The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life to elevating the discussion of social injustice in this country, taking a stand against racial inequality, and devoting himself to the notion of equal opportunity for everyone. Through his words, example and ultimate sacrifice, he challenged us all to take a deep look at our actions and inactions in our communities. He called on all Americans to stand up against injustice and reminded us all of our moral obligations to each other.
In honor of his memory and example President Reagan signed the law creating the holiday in 1983, and it was first observed on January 20, 1986. This year on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day there are a number of opportunities for participating in the celebration in Snohomish County which are listed below.
I hope you have an opportunity over the holiday to reflect on the vision and values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Sincerely,
Dave Gossett, Councilmember
Snohomish County Council
