IF YOU THINK IT'S JUST YOUR BRAIN THAT THINKS... THINK AGAIN!
It is now fairly universally agreed upon that the body and the mind are not two separate entities, but one. Our emotions, our breathing, our imagination, our movement, our sense of well being, and our ability to function well are all connected. As Moshe Feldenkrais brilliantly understood, when we start to reorganize our bodies and learn new, freer, less painful patterns of functioning, we also start to regain our sense of satisfaction, worthiness, and, ultimately, pleasure in life. But did you know that the concrete, rational thinking our brains do --- remembering past events, planning for future ones, evaluating personalities, and even doing math problems --- is also reflected in our bodies? Read our featured article by Natalie Angier --- Abstract Thoughts? The Body Takes Them Literally --- and wonder at the precision and clarity with which our bodies do our thinking! All of this underscores the importance of re-attaining and maintaining ease, comfort, and mobility in our lives. So join us in one of the twice-daily Awareness Through Movement® classes here at the FLC. In addition to being a wonderful antidote to seasonal habits of hunching backs, tensing shoulders and scrunching up faces against the winter weather, our classes will keep muscles and joints, and very importantly, brains, from stiffening up. And that is a beautiful thought!

FACULTY SIGHTINGS
Here's what our faculty are up to in addition to the classes they are offering at the Center.
Marcy Lindheimer After teaching all of March in NYC, Marcy will be spending much of April teaching in Chicago, April 4-8 and California, where she'll co-teach the last segment of the ABM Basic Training from April 19-28. Barbara Forbes Barbara continues to teach ATM at Sarah Lawrence College, and also ATM leading into Dance Improvisation. Her ongoing graduate studies in Russell Delman's Embodied Life Mentorship Program enrich her Feldenkrais practice. Suzanne Toren In February, Suzanne traveled to the Santa Barbara Healing Sanctuary as the "dreams-as-theatre" coach. The SBHS's Jungian-therapist founder, Robbie Bosnak (developer of "Embodied Dreamwork"), has tried to replicate (and update) an ancient Greek Aesclepion, whose underlying idea is that we have within us the ability to heal ourselves, given some helpful stimuli to the unconscious. The Sanctuary program included art, drama, nutrition counseling, watsu, yoga, tai chi, and, of course, dreamwork. Suzanne helped participants turn their dream images into actable scenes, which, in the end, provided universal value, beyond their significance to the original dreamer.
