Claim Reminder in Bad Weather
Arbella Insurance Group - Here for good

Snowfall in the area has reached an unprecedented 70 plus inches in a matter of just 22 days. Many of your customers have either submitted or are seeking guidance regarding ice dam claims.  Please allow this to supplement our communication of January 30, 2015.

To respond to the associated claim volume and to ensure a prompt response to your customers' needs we have taken a number of steps to bolster our claim handling capabilities. We have additional claim professionals available to take calls, answer inquiries, adjust losses and assist customers. We have also secured and deployed preferred independent adjusters to assist with the extremely high claim volume.

PROTECT PROPERTY AND PLEASE STAY SAFE

Should a customer experience a loss and seek guidance about what to do, they should keep the following in mind:

  • First, they should protect their family and property from further harm
    • They should make reasonable and necessary repairs required to protect the property; which may include snow removal from the area of the roof near the ice dam
    • If they experience interior water damage as result of an ice dam the cost of reasonable snow removal will be considered as part of the claim
    • Proper steps should be taken to keep personal property out of harm's way
    • Under no circumstances should policyholders take any mitigation effort that may expose them to injury
  • Second, they should keep an accurate record of repair expenditures; including photographs and receipts
    • Some, or all, of these expenses may be reimbursed; consistent with the terms and provisions of the insurance policy
  • Finally, they should report the loss to their agent, or directly to Arbella, as quickly as possible. Customers should not wait to report their loss

Please keep in mind each claim is adjusted on a case by case basis.

TO REPORT A LOSS

Our loss reporting procedures will remain unchanged. As always, new losses can be reported via telephone, on-line, fax or mail. We encourage utilization of on-line claim reporting as telephone call volume is heightened significantly following storms; resulting in long wait times. Arbella customers who have registered with MyArbella can also report claims through this portal.

All claims received will be triaged and assigned immediately to a claim professional that will contact the customer and discuss the next steps in the claim process. Those claims meeting severity criteria will be processed through our 24/7/365 escalation protocol.
