Spotlight on Diabetes Prevention
By Tanya Stack, Diabetes Prevention Program Regional Coordinator

MEASURABLE PROGRESS
UNLIMITED SUPPORT
In 2011, the Rye YMCA became a provider of the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program and since then we've helped more than 75 community members take control of their health.  November is National Diabetes Awareness month and we encourage you to understand the risks for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Prediabetes is a condition in which individuals have blood glucose levels that are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. While only a blood test by a health care provider can confirm prediabetes, a person's family history, weight and high cholesterol levels are just a few of the factors that can put an individual in the high-risk category.

Over the past three years, the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program has helped dozens of people adopt healthier lifestyles and reduce the risk of developing not only diabetes, but also other chronic diseases. We're excited about bringing this program outside the walls of the Y and into the communities we serve. Click here to learn more.
