Our annual maintenance period is scheduled for August 18-September 1. During this period, various areas of the building will be closed for repairs, painting and cleaning. Please click here to view the tentative schedule.  We will provide an updated schedule by mid-month.

At a YMCA Near You, a Course for a Diabetic Nation (New York Times, 7/3/14)

Oralia Barrios knew she'd gotten heavy, but she didn't realize how heavy until she went to the doctor last year. At 5-foot-2, she weighed 190 pounds. And her doctor at the Open Door Family Medical Center in Port Chester, N.Y., had bad news: her blood sugar was too high.  Read more.  


Erin Hagerty Keeps Making Strides

Like many Rye Y members, Erin Hagerty arrives at the Y twice a week, eager to work out with her trainers. In the pool with Sheila, she floats, flexes her arms, and walks through water to stay strong and keep her muscles loose. Read more.

Make a Difference
Join other Rye Y members in community service!  The member-led Togetherhood Service Committee is planning a day of painting at St. Ignatius School in the Bronx on August 13. Join us for the day or for a morning or afternoon shift as we brighten hallways and stairwells at this inner city school. I hope you are enjoying your summer! Here at the Rye Y we are gearing up for fall registration, starting next week. You can view our fall program guide online or stop by the Y and pick up a copy.  I encourage you to browse through the guide and learn about all the exciting programs and activities we have scheduled in the upcoming months.  

Please be sure to reach out to our Member Services staff or myself with any questions or concerns. Thank you for being part of the Rye Y family. Looking forward to seeing you in September!
Program Registration
Member registration starts Wednesday, August 6 at 6 am online.

Children's aquatics classes are not available
through online registration. Please mail or drop off your registration lottery form by August 5.  A swim evaluation form is required -

Coming to the Wellness Center  this month... 
* New sports flooring throughout the center
* New Techno Gym Artis Strength Equipment to replace the current line plus two additions to our line - the Vertical Traction and Rotary Torso.
* New top of the line cardio equipment including replacement Arc Trainers, Ellipticals and AMTs plus the new, innovative Stairmaster Step Mill 5.
* Two new replacement racks of Iron Grip dumbells, ranging from 15 to 100 pounds
The Wellness Center will close
Monday, August 18 for renovations. We hope to re-open Tuesday, August 26. The Freestyle Fitness Zone will be open and there will be special workouts led by personal trainers in the gymnasium.

First Family Fridays
On the first Friday of the each month, we invite your family to join us for a special event! Our first event is Back to School Crafts on Friday, Sept. 5, 6:30-7:30pm. Free to Family Members. (Youth & Non-Members $10/person)

An exercise program for moms, dads and toddlers including yoga, pilates, cardio and basic gymnastics. p. 25
