Can you Burn Calories Playing Video Games? Yes, you can!
To Wii or Not to Wii? Yes, play the Wii.
There are a variety of games you can play on the Wii that will burn alot of calories. However, you shouldn't cheat when you're playing if you want to get the benefit out of them.
Although the Wii is not the only active video game system. We have one at home with several games so I can speak from experience on these games.
Wii Fit is good for strength training and balance. You are given a Wii Fit age which is primarily based on how well you do on the balance section of the test. You can also choose a male or female trainer to work with. Don't be surprised when your little Wii Mii (your character for the game) blows up like a balloon if you are overweight for your age.
We often use the Wii "Just Dance" at home (we own version 1-4). Sometimes when we have guests we load it up and dance to the songs. You hold the controller in your hand and that determines your moves. There are leg movements in the game but they are not measured. So there is the chance to cheat. Wii active, however, has a leg strap that holds a second controller which prevents you from cheating on the leg movements.
Other Wii games which will give you a good cardio workout are Wii Zumba, Wii Dancing with the Stars and Wii Sports. Studies have shown that the boxing game is Wii Sports comes within 2% of the calorie burn that actual boxing burns. I know when my husband and daughter box each other they are working up a good sweat.
These games are fun to do with others and everyone benefits from the activity.

This stew is a complete dish put together in the crockpot in the morning and dinner is ready when you get home. This is a favorite of my family. Sometimes I substitute venison for beef.

Cook: 8.5-10 hours
Ingredients
- 1 medium-size onion, finely chopped
- 2 medium-size carrots, cut into 1/4 inch thick slanting slices
