Big Welcome to Carmen Holden
Guest Services Manager

"I've been at Soldiers Point Marina for four months now and what a fantastic time it's been. After working in the travel industry for fifteen and a half years, from travel consultant to travel manager and in recent years administration - it was sure time for a sea change and the marina is such a happy place to come to work each day. Everyone is very friendly, they know your name, and all wave and say hello. I'm thoroughly enjoying all the new challenges and exciting opportunities that come past my desk. I've tried my hand at just about everything at the marina including reversing a boat trailer down the boat ramp, now that's an achievement in my book. So if you haven't meet me yet pop your head into the office and say hi."

Soldiers Point Marine Centre
Jen's Advice
My advice for this enewsletter is about maintaining your Gelcoat!
The best maintenance plan to preserve the shine and condition of your gelcoat involves using two steps; Clean and Protect.
- Cleaning your Vessel’s Gelcoat
Use specially designed cleaners - don’t use household detergents or cleaners. A lot of them are abrasive and can scratch as they clean.
There are many good products on the market for gelcoat cleaning and preservation. At SPMC we stock the Top Gear range of cleaners and polishes.
I believe Top Gear Hull Clean is the best product on the market for removing the toughest of stains from your gelcoat without damaging it.
- Protect Your Vessel’s Gelcoat
After cleaning thoroughly your gelcoat needs to be polished and sealed. Polish is designed to protect your gelcoat from ultra-violet rays and the harshness of the elements associated with the marine environment.
For a nice glossy shine, use a good quality gelcoat polish and top it off with a gelcoat sealer to seal in the shine.

Australia has signed up to a number of international treaties including the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) which requires that the master of a vessel at sea must provide assistance to a stricken vessel when they receive a distress signal. Additionally, Section 265 of the Commonwealth Navigation Act 1912 requires a master to assist a stricken vessel on any tidal waters. Section 98 of the Marine Safety Act 1998 requires the master of a vessel involved in a marine incident to give assistance to any injured person or damaged vessel involved in the incident.
However when responding in any such emergency, the master is required to ensure they do not place themselves, their passengers or own vessel in danger. Also be aware that the Civil Liability Act 2002 provides protection against liability for “good samaritans” in emergency situations.
Depending on the situation, providing assistance in an emergency may simply mean calling 000 or the local Marine Rescue NSW unit and/or staying with the vessel or person until professional assistance arrives.
Don’t forget, you could be the one who requires help next time!
