Australian Marina of the Year 2013-2014

Presenting the Award to Darrell Barnett from left: Corey Yeung from Club Marine and MIA Chairman Andrew Chapman
It was a very excited and hopeful team from the marina who attended the Marina of the Year Awards at the Marine13 Conference in Sydney, and we were elated to be announced Australian Marina of the Year 2013-2014.
The Award recognises excellence in the provision of marina services, facilities and operations.
The judging criteria covered the marina's goals and objectives, business performance, customer service and satisfaction; marketing, environmental responsibility and risk management; staff training, industry and community involvement and other accomplishments.
Many new categories were introduced this year as a means of engaging more marinas and we were also delighted to be announced the winner in the other two categories we entered:
"Best Community Engagement Initiative"
and
"Most Innovative Marketing by a Marina".
Our "Community Engagement Initiative" award recognizes Soldiers Point Marina's substantial financial contribution and on-going support for the young people on the Tomaree Peninsula. Our sponsorship provides many programs for our youth through the Real Futures Foundation to enable them to make a smooth transition from school to further education or the workplace. One of the programs is the Soldiers Point Sailing School established by the Marina in 2011. Weekly lessons are provided to student from the two local high schools at no cost to them or the school.
Our "Most Innovative Marketing by a Marina" award was based on Lan-Yap which is incorporated and embedded into the culture of Soldiers Point Marina.
Lan- Yap is a word derived from the American Spanish phrase la yapa ('something that is added') meaning "something extra, a small unexpected gift or bonus given to a customer by a merchant". We strive to include Lan-Yap in our customers' daily lives at the Marina, to make your stay with us more special by exceeding expectations with the unexpected.
A big thank you to the principal awards sponsors, Club Marine, and the MIA.
