This winter sure has been a doozy! There has been an extra emphasis on the winter signs: Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. From the winter solstice on Dec. 21 until the end of January, Venus backtracked in Capricorn, extending its stay in the cold quadrant of the zodiac longer than usual. It won't reach the spring sign of Aries until halfway through spring! This may present us with some winter-like weather longer than we'd like.

Mercury extended its visits to Aquarius and Pisces this year, thanks to its Retrograde between these two signs in February (from the 6th to the 28th). Pisces gets the most attention this winter. From Mercury's entrance into the sign of the fishes on January 31 until Venus's exit from it May 2, were are only five days (Feb. 13 to 18) when there isn't a quick heavenly body moving through Pisces. The Sun traverses these waters from Feb. 18 to March 20, Mercury swam here Jan. 31 to Feb. 12 and dives in again March 17 to April 7. Venus floats through for four weeks beginning April 5. So let's look at what Pisces presents to us.

This is the sign of non-reality and artifice, symbols and intangibles, fears and faith, dreams and nightmares. As I watched the Oscars last Sunday night, I was reminded of the many ways Pisces is part of the world of Hollywood. It is the sign associated with glamour, charisma, adulation, idolatry, image, decoration and appearance (including costumes). It rules films, which are often fiction or a fictionalization of reality. It is one of the prime signs of partying, related to music, alcohol and drugs. In fact, many "stars" have either the sign Pisces or its ruling planet, Neptune, strong in their charts (this is true of musicians, too). It's an indicator of their talent but also can tempt them into drugs. When Philip Seymour Hoffman tragically died in January, I was reminded of how we've lost so many bright young actors and musicians to drugs. (You might want to read this article about his chart and his death.)

Another reminder about Pisces has hit closer to home recently. My natal Moon is in Pisces, very close to the degree of the most recent New Moon (March 1). The Moon is related to mothers and family, and since mid-February, I've been sending a lot of time at my mother's side as she went first to the hospital and then on to a nursing home, both of which are places ruled by Pisces. There is a health and healing connection to this sign, as well as the features of confinement and suffering. I'm witnessing all this up close, and seeing a lot more of my siblings as they come to visit Mom. I should mention that my mom has the Moon in Pisces, too, not far from my Moon. Of course, Chiron (frequently associated with health matters) is in the neighborhood of both our Moons.

Virgo Full Moon March 16

What will you harvest?

The upcoming Full Moon is not exactly a "Harvest Moon" (that occurs around September) but it is in the sign of Virgo, where the Sun is located at the Harvest Moon. We're half a year apart from that season, yet there is something of a harvest feel to this Full Moon. The dwarf planet Ceres, named for the Roman goddess of fertility and harvest, will be very close to the North Node of the Moon, always an indicator of the direction in which to grow. They are both at zero degrees of Scorpio, the sign related to release and moving on. Full Moons indicate a culmination and often signal that something has ripened, peaked and maybe even has finished its course. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, which has a similar mission of helping us move past the old and make way for the new.

At this Full Moon, there is a special triangle formed by astrological factors that are a fifth and two-fifths of the sky apart (called quintiles and biquintiles). This type of relationship indicates talents and luck. The components are the Sun, Pluto, and Ceres with the North Node. This shows a very creative time to act out dramatically or through an artistic creation as part of the process of releasing. Pisces is a great time for the arts and Virgo brings precision and perfection. Both are signs of service and helping others. So think of ways that you can creatively be of service or help yourself by releasing something whereby you would benefit by letting go.

This Full Moon is part of the "moon family" that began with the New Moon of September 2012. Events now may be related to occurrences back then. For more about "moon families", visit Dietrech Pessin's website, Lunar-Shadows.

Janet's Plan-its (print version or e-book) discusses all of 2014's New and Full Moons.

Janet's Plan-its Update

e-book is selling, print version discounted
smallest

The 2014 Janet's Plan-its ebook is being sold now as a Kindle book on Amazon. For those of you who are e-readers, the ebook is handy when you're on the go. The price of $8.99 is less than half of the print version's list price. (It's possible Amazon may offer a print and ebook combo. I'm not in charge of that!)

If you don't have a Kindle, you can download a Kindle reading app for free. And if you haven't tried an ebook before, you might want to give it a whirl. Old dogs can learn new tricks. I'm living proof.

Since this year is rapidly approaching the end of the first quarter, I've dropped the price on the print version by $5 to $13.98. If you don't already have the 2014 Janet's Plan-its - or you want to give one to a friend - you can take advantage of this cost savings.

New YOU TUBE Video

Five Tips for Success Using Astrology

In my last newsletter, I mentioned how I was trying to become more 21st Century. Of course, that means I needed a YouTube video, which I taped on New Year's Eve and it's finally available to find an audience. Let me know what you think! (There is a place for comments below the viewing screen.)

I hope to do more videos in the near future. Meanwhile, you can continue to enjoy my cable TV show, LOOKING UP. The March show peeks at spring, which will come and we all anxiously await its arrival!

Here's wishing you a bright Full Moon, and a warm, joyous spring soon to come!
