Hurtling through space are the most amazing, mind-blowing things! Comets come from far away, stay for a while and then are gone again, a fleeting delight. Some never return, some re-visit periodically. The latest one is named Comet C/2012 S1 but it's being called ISON. It might be the best comet we've had since Hale-Bopp in 1997.

We don't get such special celestial visitors often so this is something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. According to this fascinating article from Space.com, "Experienced comet watchers are growing more confident that the comet has a chance to be ranked among one of the brightest in the last half century."
