Message from Bishop Jon V. Anderson

Holy Week

We are in the middle of the week where we remember the center of our faith as Christians.  Like a potter centers clay on a wheel before beginning to shape a pot, this time and these days shape us as Christians and remind us of the passion of our Lord. Each are laced with hard news about human nature and our broken-ness.  Each are full of promise that overcomes the forces of evil and sin in us and in this world.

Maundy Thursday reminds us of Christ's command to love one another and also of the gift of the Lord's Supper.  Our Lord comes as a servant to wash our feet.

Good Friday reminds us of the deepest suffering of Jesus and his death.

Holy Saturday is a time of waiting. I notice more congregations are finding ways to gather in a vigil. But we all are in a time of waiting.

The Resurrection of Our Lord - The resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord came as a shocking, frightening, world-changing gift of surprising grace. It brings the Good News that God is for us and with us and has the power to overcome even our greatest enemy... death. God's resurrecting grace continues to surprise us in our lives today.

Each of the days will shape us like the fingers of a potter.

May God's Spirit guide you into and through this great story and

breathe new life into us all. Shape us into your people, O God.
