Synod News and Events - January 26, 2015

--IMPORTANT MESSAGE--

The Young Adults Bishop's Gathering Webinar scheduled for this evening, Monday, January 26, has been canceled.  We have had only a couple of people register.

We have received feedback that the time proposed does not work.

If you are interested and know of a time during the day or late afternoon that might be better for you please email Caitlin Kodet at caitlin.kodet@swmnelca.org.
We would like to hear more from young adults about the life of the synod.

Thanks for all you are doing as you live out your daily mission trip of your baptism.

Imagine yourself as a Young Adult in Global Mission
Imagine yourself as a Young Adult in Global Mission
Young Adults in Global Mission Applications for the 2015-2016 program year are due by February 15!
This year, more than 70 young adults will have the opportunity to take part in the ELCA's Young Adults in Global Mission program. Volunteers are placed in a variety of roles in one of eleven different countries across the world. As they share their gifts of service, young adults receive gifts of hospitality from the ELCA's companion churches who host them. Click here for more information.

Multiple Staff - Wellness Grants

+Bishop Jon V. Anderson

There are up to ten grants of $250 for multiple staff leaders to invest in wellness by working with a counselor, coach or to purchase some resource.  We would ask you to sketch out your idea and submit it by June 1, 2015. We could imagine the following:

  • a couple or several staffs working together to enrich their work and pooling resources for this work.
  • a multiple staff working with a counselor on communication or on growing deeper in your understanding of one another.
  • a multiple staff working with a spiritual director as a group and as individuals.
  • reading a book together like Edwin Friedman's Fables, or Strengthsfinder 2.0 and using it for ongoing reflection.

What would you imagine?  How could you do proactive work to care for, deepen capacity and broaden capacity in your multiple staff to be stewards of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in your local mission field and beyond.

Send your proposal to Pr. Joyce Piper at joyce.piper@swmnelca.org. We will be dispersing these resources to well-conceived proposals on a rolling basis any time before June 1, 2015. The first ten will receive the funds.

TRAVEL LIGHT
Travel light serves as a metaphor for reminding me to let go of the people, possessions, and plans that are no longer life giving and faith shaping. Having fewer possessions means spending less time finding, organizing, and maintaining things and more time using the things that bring joy and delight to my life...

DO WHAT MATTERS
Do what matters is not only the title for one of Vibrant Faith's training conferences, it's also step 2 of our signature coaching process where we encourage leaders to focus their attention on their most pressing issues. Doing what matters begins with discernment as you explore ways to make the most of your God-given strengths, passions and yearnings. It leads to better choices, ...

BE PRESENT & PROVOCATIVE
The phrase "be present and provocative" is a recent one that I've begun to embrace. I've always been forward-thinking and like to plan ahead. My preoccupation with planning ahead often prevents me savoring the present moment...
