Lutheran Disaster Response - Philippines Typhoon Disaster

+Bishop Jon V. Anderson

I encourage you to find ways to support Lutheran Disaster Response as they respond to the Philippines Typhoon Disaster. This is our path for funding disaster work these days. The Synod Council has authorized me to send resources of up to $500 from our designated account.

I hope we will receive other funds we can pass on in the days to come. I understand the Lutheran Disaster Response was planning to send $1 million to help with this disaster this week from funds they have gathered earlier for this work.

They are partnering with Lutheran World Relief. LWR is already at work in the Philippines.  There will be plenty of work in the months to come.

LWR has put together a Typhoon Haiyan Congregational Resources Webpage. The resources include a whole variety of things from bulletin inserts, text for announcements/bulletins/newsletters, prayers/petitions, sermon starters, children's sermon ideas, a video, a power point....Help spread the word through your congregation.

Prayers for Long Lake Lutheran Church (rural St. James area)

+Bishop Jon V. Anderson

Please join in prayers for Long Lake Lutheran Church part of United in Faith Ministries as they consider a vote to close in their meeting on Sunday. We also remember Pr. Lowell Asplund and all the baptized in this time.

Mark Hanson Fund for Leaders - Endowment Gift
+Bishop Jon V. Anderson
Many of us have given a gift to the Fund for Leaders in appreciation of Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson's leadership over the last twelve years. I invite you to join Robyn and me in giving a gift. Your synod council authorized a gift of $500 to be sent to this fund. If you would like us to forward gifts for you to the Fund for Leaders to help create a scholarship in his honor we will do so.

Want to know where your LWR Quilts & Kits go?
Becca Tumm, LWR Philanthropic Associate
There now is a Quilt and Kit Tracker at Lutheran World Relief. This is a brand new opportunity for congregations to know more intimately where their quilts and kits are going, we're really excited about it! If congregations follow the instructions at this link they will not only know where their quilts and kits go, but also when they get there!

  • 369 school kits
  • 28 baby care kits
  • 67 personal care kits
The offering was $1100. Half will go to God's Global Barnyard of the ELCA World Hunger Appeal and half will be divided among the emergency food shelf programs in the communities of the Conference.
