Please Return On Monday (P.R.O.M.) Campaign
Prom weekend has arrived and Lancers and their guests will be enjoying the festivities that begin on Saturday, May 21 at Venuti's in Addison, followed by a post-prom cruise departing from Navy Pier. Bus assignments for downtown are available on the 2016 Prom website.
In anticipation, this week kicked off with juniors and seniors watching a pre-prom video produced at Lake Park. This format was chosen because of the real and authentic power of hearing directly from Lake Park's own students and staff members. The stories that were shared are raw and the direct results of decisions that people made, decisions that cannot be reversed. We hope that by hearing the stories, students will think about the choices they make this weekend and in the future.
Additionally, the West Campus entrance has been taped off with real cars from accident scenes caused by poor decision making. Presented by Students Against Destructive Decisions, the reality confronts students entering and exiting campus every day with a clear message: Please Return On Monday. Wishing our Lancers a safe and fun prom weekend!

Preparing for Final Exams
During first semester, Lake Park implemented a new semester exam schedule that addresses a state mandate requiring a full day of school (5 hours) for the last day of the school year. The schedule was designed with input from students, faculty, and administrators and will be used for second semester exams as well. View the final exam schedule. The final three days of attendance, ( Tuesday, May 31; Wednesday, June 1; and Thursday, June 2), will include several exam periods, traditional instructional time and a 25-minute resource period each day. The instructional resource period is intended to be student-directed time used for independent studying, tutorial assistance or access to PPS supports. Attendance during all periods on each day is required. Students arriving late will not be given additional time to complete exams. Students who have an unexcused absence for a final exam will receive a zero for the exam and will fail the class. Similar to typical school days, bus transportation is provided, all class periods will meet and meal service is available; however, the class periods vary in length.

Lancers Observe Illinois Supreme Court in Action
AP U.S. Government teacher Mr. Don Fulmer and 14 students were among three dozen schools in DuPage County invited to witness live arguments in two cases of the Illinois Supreme Court. The one-day change of venue to Benedictine University in Lisle was part of the initiative to bring the Court to the people it serves and its continuing goal for greater transparency in the judicial process.
The May 19 opportunity represented one of the rare times the Court has heard oral arguments outside of Springfield or Chicago, and one of the first times that Illinois Supreme Court arguments have been held at an educational institution.
Special thanks to Attorney Mark W. Schroeder of Brooks, Tarulis & Tibble, LLC for visiting Lake Park in advance of the field trip to preview the appellate process.
