Superintendent's
In the last edition, I previewed upcoming dates for spring and summer that included information related to 2016-17 school year registration. Equally as important is preparing our families for fees associated with registration for next year. At the Board of Education meeting on Monday night, the student fees for 2016-17 were approved and have now been posted online. The increase in some categories is aligned to the December 2014 Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 0.8 percent. The fees for Summer School, Driver Education Summer School and Summer Bridge take effect for programs offered this June, July and August. The Board meeting also included a presentation by Assistant Principal for Instructional Innovation and Activities Dominic Manola, Manager of Instructional Technology Joe Tita and a team of pilot teachers from the 1:1 initiative. They provided information about the current school year, previewed plans for this summer and highlighted Chromebook deployment to the Lancer Class of 2020 for the 2016-17 school year.Lake Park teachers Rokki Parrinello, Kara Roll, Aaron Sandberg and Jeff Sichz enthusiastically shared first-hand experiences about lesson planning and teaching with Chromebooks. They commended the engagement and success of students using the devices in their classrooms.Parents of our incoming freshmen will have the option to attend informational meetings in May, June and July to learn about the benefits and uses of the devices. The freshman deployment model allows for the Chromebook fee to be dispersed incrementally over four years. Summer preparation for 1:1 implementation will include professional development workshops for staff, West Campus wireless network updates, preparations for device distribution and identification of incoming freshmen with tech expertise from sender schools. During the first week of school, our students will participate in a "Kickstart" program to provide equitable and consistent training. We are excited about this district wide initiative and will share more information through a dedicated 1:1 website, published FAQs, LP Link updates and more. Finally, I would like to wish all of our students and their families a safe and enjoyable spring break. Please note the campuses and administration center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the week of March 28. We look forward to the safe return of our students and staff on Monday, April 4!

Athletics and Activities Fair to Welcome Class of 2020
An Athletic and Activity Orientation for incoming students and parents will be held on Wednesday, April 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at East Campus. After a brief introduction in the gymnasium, families will then attend "Meet the Coach / Sponsor" breakout sessions throughout the building. Lake Park Boosters and sports and activities will display their offerings at the Activities Fair in the cafeteria. The orientation program is designed to benefit students and parents by learning about Lake Park's athletics and activities programs in advance of next school year. Attendees can have their questions answered by coaches, sponsors and students currently in the program. This provides Class of 2020 students with time to consider their choices prior to the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. View an electronic copy of the co-curricular opportunities available and start dates for next fall.

Reserve Tickets for JKB Baseball Fundraiser
Join members of the Lake Park school community and the DuPage Valley Conference for an evening of White Sox baseball to benefit JKB on Saturday, August 6.
The J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation has provided thousands of high school student leaders with a variety of interactive leadership training experiences to prepare them for a lifetime of leadership. Evolved from the original program and rooted in the tenants of strength, humility, compassion and service, the JKB Experiential Education Foundation was founded in 2014. The JKB Experiential Education Foundation is a 5-day experiential program during the summer preceding a student's junior year and is dedicated to developing, nurturing and strengthening students through a series of leadership training sessions and team activities that can be leveraged for the remainder of their high school years and beyond.
The JKB experience costs approximately $1000 for each student-athlete; however, that cost is covered through fundraising efforts and donations from organizations such as the Lake Park Educational Foundation and the Lake Park Athletic Boosters. Once again, DVC schools are working together to jointly fundraise for their respective students. The JKB event will include reserve tickets in sections 102 and 103 to watch the Chicago White Sox take on the Baltimore Orioles. Each ticket is $30 and will be delivered in May.
Parade/Field Pass Opportunity: For an extra $5 per ticket, a field pass will be distributed for a parade/on-field experience available prior to the game. This ticket is an opportunity for JKB guests to walk around the warning track of the field an hour before game time - fun for all the JKB students, alumni, family and friends!

Teams are now forming for The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, Roselle, Bloomingdale, Itasca and Medinah. The event will be held on June 10, 2016 at Lake Park High School East Campus. Relay For Life is a tribute to those who have been lost to cancer, a celebration of those who have survived cancer, and a hope for those who currently face cancer that one day through our efforts cancer will be eliminated. Relay For Life is an inspirational event with entertainment, food, fun and a special tribute given to the Guests of Honor, cancer survivors.
During the Relay, teams set up their camps and take turns walking around a track. Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. This year's Relay, with an Olympic them of "There is a Champion in us all" will be hosted from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. Teams are encouraged to decorate their campsites and dress up around the Olympic theme.
To form a Relay For Life team, register online or contact Event Chairperson Maryann Grygiel at mobysmom2k1@yahoo.com or at (630) 893-6647.
