Providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students is a top priority that we take very seriously. In collaboration with the Roselle Police Department, the Lake Park administration conducted "REDI" planning to address a bomb threat submitted this week via the anonymous reporting system

Early this morning, Lake Park worked with local, state and federal police units who affirmed that our schools are safe. The critical decisions to maintain a regular school schedule and continue with extracurricular activities were made collectively and based on information from working with law enforcement agencies. Student, staff and community members should feel very comfortable being in school and fully participating in school activities and practices today and throughout the weekend.

We value our working relationship with the Roselle Police Department and especially commend West Campus School Resource Officer Chris Schwytzer
and East Campus School Resource Officer Rob Sarra  for their involvement in our schools. Their names should be familiar to you for their monthly contributions to the LP Link and familiar to our students who see them in the hallways, parking lot, cafeteria and supervising at athletic events, school dances and more.

Our SROs provide a valuable connection to the schools and our communities that cannot be emphasized enough. Their presence on campus and the relationships they build with students help create a culture of mutual respect and sharing of information. Our students demonstrate responsibility and have proactively come forward with details that have proven helpful in other investigations. The Anonymous Tip Hotline at (630) 529-3001 is another district resource where students and families can feel comfortable submitting information.

Lake Park and the Roselle Police Department engage in year-round planning and training drills to ensure emergency preparedness. In fact, all staff members are scheduled to participate in an after school Institute on Thursday, February 25. The buildings will close at 3:00 p.m. to allow everyone to attend active shooter training which complies with an annual state requirement. The purposes of this training include increasing awareness of school safety issues and reviewing best practices involving an active threat in the school buildings.

The safety of our students and staff is always the highest priority. Thank you for your support of our leadership team and confidence in the decisions that we make to keep Lake Park safe.

2016 IHSA Team State Qualifiers
Congratulations to Lake Park's Competitive Co Ed Cheerleading team that qualified for the IHSA State meet with their Runner Up finish at the Lake Zurich Sectional.  They competed in the preliminary and final rounds in Bloomington on February 5-6.

The Lancers represented one of only three teams to qualify for the IHSA State Meet every year since the IHSA adopted Competitive Cheer as a sport in 2005-2006.

The cheer coaches are Head Coach Steven Quaglia, and assistant coaches Olivia Wolicki and Ashley Binneboese.

Representing Lake Park student activities, 10 Lancers will be competing in the IHSA State Chess Tournament on February 12-13. A total of 146 teams will compete over the two days of competition at the Peoria Civic Center. The chess team is coached by faculty sponsors Sidney Hsu and James Kryger.
National Merit Finalists Named
Lake Park is proud to announce that two seniors have been named National Merit Finalists. Congratulations to Angela Dylewski of Itasca and Adam Michals of Bloomingdale who will continue to compete for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered this spring.

More than 1.5 million students nationwide entered the Merit Program as juniors by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. High scorers were designated as finalists by scoring in the top one-half of one percent among students taking the PSAT.
AP Test Registration Available Online
Advanced Placement testing will occur from May 2 to May 13. Lake Park is pleased to once again offer online AP test registration and payment. To register, visit the registration link that will remain open until the end of the day (11:59 p.m.) on Friday, March 25

The College Board has established this year's fee of $92 per test. For those who prefer to pay by check, complete registration online and bring in or mail a check to Mrs. Sheila Finstein in the main office at West Campus. Please make checks payable to "Lake Park High School" and provide your student's ID number in the memo line.

Once your student has registered, download a copy of the 2015-2016 Bulletin for AP Students and Parents. The College Board developed this bulletin to help parents and students become familiar with the procedures involved with AP testing, important dates, and grade reporting. A hard copy of this publication is available from Mrs. Finstein at West Campus, and from Mrs. Anne Coppola in the main office at East Campus.

Students, families and community members are invited to this free opportunity. (Extra credit will be available; students should see a social studies teacher for more details.)

"Remember the Titans" will be shown in honor of Black History month. This movie was specifically selected because it deals with the difficulties and triumphs of the integration of public schools from a high school perspective, while also the unifying characteristics that sports have in society. After viewing the film, students will have the opportunity to analyze the impact of Brown v. Board of Education on the issue of segregation; while also analyzing successful integration tactics employed during the Civil Rights Era.
