Annually, Lake Park High School hosts Curriculum Night at each campus.  This year, West Campus Curriculum Night takes place on Wednesday, August 28 and East Campus hosts its event on Wednesday, September 4.  A letter of invitation will be mailed to homes which includes space for your student to write his/her course schedule.

During the evening parents are invited to walk their student's schedule, attend teacher presentations about learning objectives and course expectations, and visit with members of our Pupil Personnel Services department.  The format of the evening does not allow time for extended conversations about individual students.  Please speak with your student's teachers or counselor to schedule time for these types of conversations.

Additionally, Mr. Joe Tita, Manager of Instructional Technology, will be holding informational sessions about technology and our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative.  Parents are welcome to learn about this new initiative.  BYOD helps students take full advantage of technology in a safe and responsible manner.

Curriculum Night and other parent programs offer families and faculty the opportunity to build bridges of communication and shared responsibility.  We value the contributions that parents and guardians provide at home and we look forward to sharing our vision and priorities for the upcoming school year.

Turf Field Dedication Ceremony

A dedication ceremony to celebrate the recent renovations to the West Campus stadium, including the newly-installed artificial turf field, will be held on Friday, September 6.   The ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm, preceding the first varsity football game of the season against Lockport High School.  The ceremony will recognize major financial contributors to the Field For Our Future project.  Funds for Lake Park's renovated stadium, track, and football field came through a combination of efforts, including proceeds the school raised through Lake Park's partnership with the PGA during the 2012 Ryder Cup and philanthropic donations to its Field For Our Future project.

B96 radio personality and Lake Park High School Distinguished Alumnus, Justin Roman, will be at the school from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm in pre-dedication festivities.
Integrated Pest Management

Lake Park High School has adopted an Integrated Pest Management program that minimizes the use of pesticides in school buildings and on school grounds. The policy, in accordance with state laws, also includes a registry whereby parents can be notified in writing two days before any pesticides are used in the school buildings or on school grounds.

Integrated Pest Management emphasizes inspections and preventive measures.  The focus of the program is to identify and eliminate conditions in the school that could cause a pest problem. Regular spraying inside the school building is not part of the pest control program, however, occasional applications of pesticide control materials are used to maintain school grounds and may be used if a persistent indoor problem occurs. The district's goal is to schedule such applications during non-school hours when the amount of exposure to students and staff is minimal.

If it becomes necessary to use pesticide, notice will be posted two business days prior to the application at the buildings. The only exception to the two-day notice would be if there was an immediate threat to health or property. Notice will then be posted as soon as practicable.

If you would like to receive written notification prior to the application, please click here and complete the form.  Return to the LP Administration Center, 590 S. Medinah Rd., Roselle, 60172 when completed.

Volunteers Wanted for Peer Jury

The Roselle-Itasca Peer Jury is looking for Lake Park students to serve as volunteer Peer Jurors.  The program is used for minor criminal and petty offenses in which the offender has already confessed to the offense.  The Peer Jurors are trained to analyze the facts of the situation, ask questions, and decide upon appropriate consequences based on the hearing.  Two police officers and two outside facilitators are present at all hearings to help guide the process.

According to the Illinois Attorney General's office, school that have a Peer Jury program have reported a decrease in suspensions and in-school fights and an increase in attendance.

Interested students may pick up an application from Officer Heidi Onion at East Campus or Officer Scott Phillips at West Campus. Potential jurors will be interviewed by Officer Onion.

Band Auxiliary Seeks Volunteers

The Lake Park Band Auxiliary is seeking volunteers for open board seats and a variety of committees.  The Auxiliary is the parent fundraising arm for the LP Marching Band, Winter Guard, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.  If your student is involved in any of these programs at Lake Park High School, the Band Auxiliary welcomes you to join our group and become a parent volunteer!

Board openings include the positions of Secretary and
Treasurer.  Both seats require attendance at the monthly board meetings and select special meetings during the course of the school year.  We are also seeking volunteers to fill the roles of Alumni Committee Chair and Recruiting Committee Chair.  For further information about these positions, please contact LPBA Board President Kathy Miller at 630-660-5604 or email her at kmiller@hstmaterials.com.

The Band Auxiliary is also in need of parent volunteers throughout the course of the band seasons.  For example, male chaperones are needed to accompany the 140-member Lake Park Marching Band on overnight trips to out-of-state competitions.  Help is also needed for the Lake Park Joust in September, the Equipment Crew, Fundraising Committee, Hospitality Committee, Market Day and Newsletter committees.  We can match you to an ideal volunteer position of your choice, depending upon your skill, interest and time availability.  For further information or to volunteer, contact Volunteer Coordinator Julie Wawczak at 630-529-1806 or email her at tjbwawczak@aol.com.

Volunteering for the Lake Park Band Auxiliary gives you the opportunity to not only meet your child's fellow band students, but to make new friends in the Lake Park community.
