Bridj, on-demand bus service, offers new commute option
Bridj, a transit system using luxury shuttle buses with amenities, is now offering morning commuter services to the South Boston Waterfront, from both Brookline and Allston. Following a month of free beta testing, tickets are available for purchase on the Bridj website.

Bridj service currently stops in the South Boston Waterfront in the Fort Point neighborhood at 347 Congress Street (at the corner of A Street). Routes originate in Brookline's Coolidge Corner at 278 Harvard Street and in Allston at 152 Brighton Avenue.
The startup transit provider has been studying data from many sources to identify new direct shuttle routes based on where commuters work and live.
You can sign up on Bridj's website with your zip code and email to be notified if a route is developed from your home neighborhood.
For route info, to purchase tickets, and to contact Bridj with questions, visit their web site.
Have you tried Bridj? If you have used the service, or decide to try the service, the Seaport TMA would love to how Bridj worked as a commuter service for you. Send us a quick email at info@SeaportTMA.org.

New Commuter Vanpool subsidy available from MassDOT
MassDOT has announced the Massachusetts Commuter Vanpool Program, designed to increase vanpool use throughout the Commonwealth, by subsidizing vanpool costs for participants. A monthly subsidy of up to $600 (no more than 50% of the cost) will be available to participating vanpools.
Funding is provided through the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) Capital Cost of Contracting Policy in order to increase vanpool participation rates and reduce single occupancy vehicle travel.
A vanpool (similar to a carpool) is a group of 7-15 people with a similar origin, destination, and schedule, who share the costs of commuting and ride in a vehicle with seven or more seats. The group divides the cost of the monthly van rental, gas, insurance, and other affiliated costs.
The Massachusetts Commuter Vanpool Program is led and administered by the MassRIDES Statewide Travel Options Program at MassDOT. MassRIDES works with TMAs, employers, and municipalities across the Commonwealth to encourage green commuting options, including vanpooling.
The Seaport TMA is working with MassRIDES to promote Vanpooling and this new subsidy program.
More details on the Massachusetts Commuter Vanpool Program can be found here. If you are interested in joining an existing vanpool, or if you want more information on how to form a vanpool, contact the Seaport TMA at info@seaporttma.org.

Plan ahead: I-90 MassPike lane closure ongoing
Route I-90 Eastbound and Westbound was recently reduced by one travel lane in each direction between Commonwealth Avenue and Dalton Street. This will last for approximately one year.
The lane reduction has been implemented so that MassDOT can rehabilitate the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, which passes over I-90, as well as reconstruct the median of I-90.
The left lane of both the Eastbound and Westbound directions will be closed to traffic for six months. Upon the left lane being reopened, closure of the right lane in both directions will follow for six months. Lane closures in each direction will be reduced from four lanes to three lanes throughout this stretch, which spans 1.4 miles, for one year.
Short-term closures of an additional lane on I-90 Eastbound and Westbound may take place during non-peak hours (nighttime and weekend).
The Commonwealth Avenue Bridge was constructed in 1962 and supports the MBTA Green Line, Commonwealth Avenue Westbound traffic, and Commonwealth Avenue Eastbound traffic.
MassDOT encourages drivers to plan ahead as those traveling through the area should expect delays.

MassDOT encourages drivers to sign up for E-ZPass; Tobin Bridge now all electronic tolling
Tolling on the Tobin Bridge has converted to an all-electronic
format.
The new toll system eliminates the need for drivers to stop and pay a cash toll on the bridge. Instead, drivers of vehicles without an E-ZPass Transponder will be invoiced via mail using the vehicle's registration address.
Tobin bridge tolls are now collected by the following methods:
- Passenger Vehicle Customers with an E-ZPass Transponder will continue to pay a discounted toll of $2.50;
- Passenger Vehicle Customers without a transponder will "pay-by-plate," where the newly installed tolling gantries will take an image of the license plate and an invoice will be sent to the address listed on the vehicle registration. Passenger Vehicle pay-by-plate Customers will pay the $3.00 cash toll as they have previously; and
- Commercial Vehicle Customers with an E-ZPass Transponder will continue to pay as they have previously; however, Commercial Vehicle pay-by-plate Customers will be charged an additional $0.50.
MassDOT strongly encourages drivers who do not have E-ZPass to sign up for a transponder in order to simply the toll process.
Drivers can visit www.mass.gov/ezpassma, where they can register online, download an application, or locate their closest sign-up location - which includes 20 Registry of Motor Vehicles branches, 17 AAA branches, and four E-ZPass customer service centers. Drivers can also call 1-877-627-7745 for assistance.
