The Seaport TMA's commuter newsletter contains information about our incentive programs, events, and more. If you participate in at least one of our programs, you'll receive our newsletter each month with reminders to submit reports, information on program changes, and other important commuter information.
 
Water transportation services: An overview 
  
As many commuters switch to taking the boat to work in the nice weather, we want to remind you of many services available via water  both seasonally and year round. See below for many water transportation services accessible by commuters in the South Boston Waterfront. Ferries stop at Long Wharf and Rowes Wharf, which are walkable to some parts of the South Boston Waterfront. 

Seasonal ferries  (stop at Long Wharf, operated by Boston Harbor Cruises)

MBTA Commuter ferries (year round, operated by Boston Harbor Cruises)

  • Hingham (Shipyard) to Boston (Rowes Wharf)  
  • Hingham (Shipyard) and Hull (Pemberton Point) to Boston (Long Wharf) and Logan Airport  
  • Inner Harbor Ferry (Long Wharf to Charlestown Navy Yard)

Water Taxi (year round)     

 

Rowes Wharf Water Transport  and  Boston Harbor Cruises Water Taxi (formerly City Water Taxi) both connect travelers to many locations throughout Boston Harbor including the Seaport, Fort Point, the North End, North Station, Charlestown, East Boston, and Logan Airport.   

 

 

Cultural Connector(seasonal, operated by Boston Harbor Cruises)

 

This loop connects the Charlestown Navy Yard, Central Wharf, Fort Point, and Fan Pier. More information can be found here

   


5 MBTA service changes to note for July 4 
 

On the July 4 holiday, travelers may want to take note of the following changes:  

  

  • No bicycles will be allowed on MBTA subway lines for the entire day, July 4.
  • All MBTA parking facilities will be pay-on-entry and cash only.
  • The Red, Orange, Blue, Green, and Silver Lines will operate on a Sunday schedule, with rush hour service beginning at 2PM.  
  • Buses will operate on a Sunday Schedule.   
  • Commuter rail lines will operate on a Saturday schedule.

Your suggestions wanted for outdoor bike parking locations in South Boston Waterfront
 

The City of Boston is looking to install additional public bicycle parking around the South Boston Waterfront as part of transportation improvement efforts.    

   

Do you have suggestions for where more bike parking is needed? Email your feedback to info@seaporttma.org so we can relay your suggestions to the City!   

    

 


MassDOT wants to hear from you about biking/walking around South Station 

 

Do you walk or bike by South Station? Do you use a bus stop, walk to your office, or use a Hubway bike from South Station?  

 

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is conducting a survey about biking and walking around South Station. They have developed this survey to hear about your experiences, observations, and suggestions. Your input will be used as feedback relating to the South Station Expansion Project

 

You can take MassDOT's South Station Pedestrian and Bicycle  survey here. Please note that the survey is concerned with the area immediately surrounding South Station. Please provide comments relevant to areas adjacent to South Station.   

 


July events that may impact your commute 

 

July calendar: Our monthly calendar includes South Boston Waterfront area events which are each expected to draw 1,000 to several thousand attendees and which may impact your commute (parking, traffic, public transportation) and area activity.

 Commuter Incentive Programs Reminders & Updates
 
 

Zipcar discount through Seaport TMA 
  

Did you know that you can get a discount on Zipcar membership and rates through the Seaport TMA?  

 

As a Seaport TMA affiliate, you are eligible for Zipcar car sharing discounts including reduced weekday rates, more than half off the annual fee, and exemption from the application fee. 

 

With 1,000+ vehicles throughout Boston, including the South Boston Waterfront, drive Zipcars by the hour to run errands or get to meetings. Since gas and insurance are included, Zipcar can be less expensive than rental cars or taxis.  

 

Even if you already have a Zipcar membership, you can apply for the affiliate discount.

Carpool Program

 

Current Carpoolers: Please submit your carpooling report for this past month by clicking here. Only one person per carpool should submit the report.

  

Interested in carpooling? Find a match by browsing our carpool listings of people working in the South Boston Waterfront who are interested in sharing the ride to work. Remember to check this list regularly for other prospective carpoolers from your area. We will also contact you if we find a prospective carpool match from those submitted.

 

Share the ride to work and be rewarded with gas cards, reserved parking, and more.

 

You'll be matched with employees who work similar hours and live nearby, making carpooling convenient and easy. Choose when and how often you want to carpool. The more you share, the more you earn.

 


Guaranteed Ride Home

 

Did you know that if you take transit, carpool, or bike to work you are eligible for the Seaport TMA's Guaranteed Ride Home program?

 

This service provides you with a free taxi ride home (includes fare and tip - suggested tip is 15%) if you have a personal emergency while at work. Participants are issued up to four vouchers each year upon submission of the confirmation report.

Current participants:

 

If you have misplaced the confirmation report form sent to you with your voucher, you can print a new one from our web site here. We will issue you a new voucher after receiving this form mailed to us with your receipt.  

 

Reminder: Make sure to check the name of the taxi company on your voucher before you hail/call a taxi to ensure you use the correct taxi company.
  

NuRide rewards for green commuting
  

NuRide, the designated green commute rewards program in Massachusetts, offers rewards when you bike, walk, use transit, carpool, or telework. Members earn points toward discounts and coupons to restaurants and attractions. 

 

NuRide has launched a

new, mobile friendly web site, making it easier than ever to be rewarded for green commuting. Check out their new web site here.
