Developing a South Boston Waterfront transportation plan

The Seaport TMA is aware of the constraints of transportation in getting to and from the South Boston Waterfront/Seaport District (gridlocked traffic, overwhelmed Silver Line stations at rush hour).

The staff of the Seaport TMA is continually working with public agencies and employers to improve commuter experience through programs and advocacy projects. The staff has recently been participating in a transportation plan working group with members of several local and public agencies. The group has developed many short term solutions to alleviate traffic in the district, which are currently being implemented.

Additionally, proposal plans from several transportation planning firms are currently being reviewed in order to select a consultant who will develop a long term transportation plan for the district.

To read a full press release from the City of Boston (Oct. 2, 2013) regarding the specific improvements underway, click here.

How can you help improve transportation in the South Boston Waterfront?

Take the Seaport TMA's Commuter Survey for employees working in the South Boston Waterfront/Seaport/Fort Point. (See below for more information on the purpose of this survey).

Commuter Survey: Help improve transportation accessibility in the South Boston Waterfront!

The Seaport TMA has designed a Commuter Survey to obtain data about where employees live who work in the South Boston Waterfront and what mode(s) they use to get to work.

Knowing where commuters come from and how they get here helps us to focus our advocacy efforts on new and improved commuter services. So whether your one way commute includes using one single transit line, biking to work, or a combination of driving to a transit station, taking the commuter rail, and walking, or any other mode(s), we want to hear from you.

You can fill out the anonymous survey here. You may choose to enter your contact information to win one of five $25 restaurant gift cards.

Thank you!

November events that may impact your commute

November calendar: Our monthly calendar includes area events which are each expected to draw 1,000 to several thousand attendees and which may impact your commute (parking, traffic, public transportation) and area activity.

Bicycle Commuter Group Lunch Dec. 4

The Seaport TMA's next Bicycle Commuter Group Lunch is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 12-1PM in the Seaport West building at 155 Seaport Boulevard. Laura Smeaton, an instructor for MassBike, will give a presentation on bike safety and biking in winter weather. Laura is a certified cycling instructor through the League of American Bicyclists.

Lunch will be provided. Whether you bike to work every day or occasionally, you are welcome to attend. An RSVP is required so that we can adequately plan for lunch and ensure the meeting space can accommodate the group. Please let me know if you plan to attend. This will be an informal lunchtime workshop discussion. You can feel free to come dressed however you would ordinarily go to work that day or in your biking gear if you're biking from your office to the meeting.

To RSVP, please email info@seaporttma.org. Directions will be sent closer to the event date to those who have RSVP'd.

Commuter Incentive Programs Reminders & Updates

Carpool Program

Current Carpoolers: Please submit your carpooling report for the month of August by clicking here. Only one person per carpool should submit the report.

If you have already received the full number of six gas cards, please continue to submit your reports as we occasionally offer raffles and other prizes.

Interested in carpooling? Find a match by browsing our carpool listings of people working in the South Boston Waterfront who are interested in sharing the ride to work. Remember to check this list regularly for other prospective carpoolers from your area. We will also contact you if we find a prospective carpool match from those submitted.

Share the ride to work and be rewarded with gas cards, reserved parking, and more.

You'll be matched with employees who work similar hours and live nearby, making carpooling convenient and easy. Choose when and how often you want to carpool. The more you share, the more you earn.
