Longfellow bridge construction impacts (updated)

Rehabilitation of the Longfellow Bridge, which connects Cambridge Street in Boston and Main Street in Cambridge, has begun.

The project is expected to last three and a half years and is scheduled to finish in the fall of 2016.

During construction, traffic will be closed in one direction; cars traveling to Cambridge will be detoured away from the bridge. Boston-bound traffic will be shifted on the bridge, as well as the MBTA Red Line tracks during the rehabilitation.

Pedestrian and bicycle travel should be minimally impacted during construction. Red line diversions are planned for 25 weekends throughout the duration of the project. Red Line diversion weekends  in 2013 include August 10-11, August 24-25, October 19-20, October 26-27 and November 2-3. During these Red Line diversion weekends, bicyclists will be required to walk their bikes over the bridge, or seek alternate routes.

See a detailed advisory PDF from MassDOT, including project information and detour routes here.

Newbury & Georgetown, MA

  • Arrive Seaport District: 8:30AM
  • Leave Seaport District: 5:00PM

Framingham, MA

Carpool Program

Current Carpoolers: Please submit your carpooling report for the month of July by clicking here. Only one person per carpool should submit the report.

If you have already received the full number of six gas cards, please continue to submit your reports as we occasionally offer raffles and other prizes.

Interested in carpooling? Find a match by browsing our carpool listings of people working in the South Boston Waterfront who are interested in sharing the ride to work. Remember to check this list regularly for other prospective carpoolers from your area. We will also contact you if we find a prospective carpool match from those submitted.

Share the ride to work and be rewarded with gas cards, reserved parking, and more.

You'll be matched with employees who work similar hours and live nearby, making carpooling convenient and easy. Choose when and how often you want to carpool. The more you share, the more you earn.
