Preventing Progression
Doctors currently struggle to determine whether a breast tumor is likely to shift into an aggressive, life-threatening mode-an issue with profound implications for treatment. Now a group from The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) has identified a mechanism through which mitochondria, the powerhouses of a cell, control tumor aggressiveness. Based on their findings, the team developed a simple treatment that inhibits cancer progression and prolongs life when tested in mice.

Greetings!
 | | College graduation 2012 |
My daughter turns 23 this month! I can't believe how fast time goes and that she's a young adult working full-time. But, there's one thing that concerns me about her birthdays in the years to come. There are still people being diagnosed with breast cancer. That's why I've joined the National Breast Cancer Coalition in their Deadline 2020 campaign. They are determined to find a cure and prevention by January 2020, the year my daughter will be 30. I would like my daughter's 30th birthday to be filled with happiness, love and a world without breast cancer. Please join the NBCC in their mission to end breast cancer by donating and/or telling your friends, family and doctors about it. Having a deadline makes it real and we can accomplish our goal!
I attended the Annie Appleseed Project annual CAM conference at the beginning of the month. OMG do I have some important information to tell you! I'm currently writing it up and will post it on my blog. If you don't follow my blog, you can easily subscribe. But, the one theme at the conference that I will tell you about now is how important dental health is to our overall wellbeing. We know there's a connection between dental health and heart disease, but now there's also a connection to cancer and other diseases. It's so important to floss with every brushing and to sanitize your toothbrush. Simply put it in the microwave for 1 minute at least once a month to kill all bacteria remaining on the toothbrush.
I was contacted by a photographer, Heather Blackshire, who wants to give back to breast cancer survivors! Her mother passed away 7 years ago and she'd like to help other survivors. Read about her efforts.
You may remember an organization called Y-Me that closed its doors last year. I'm pleased to announce that another organization, After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCD) has taken over Y-Me's 800 number support hotline! Read the press release and visit their website here.We have 2 fantastic give-aways for you this month! See the box below for more information. I hope you have a wonderful month! Sincerely, Victoria Tashman Pink-Link 310-995-5204

| Two Give-aways for our Monthly Contest |
We have 2 great contests for the month of March! Cara Novy-Bennewitz has graciously donated 5 copies of her new book, "Diagnosis Breast Cancer, The Best Action Plan for Navigating your Journey." Read Cara's story and enter the contest by sending me an email and answer the following question, "What is the one thing you wish you would've known when you were diagnosed?" Elizabeth Vivenzio created a much needed product for women who've had a mastectomy. Rub-on nipples is the result of her efforts. She has donated a 6-pack (three pairs) to 10 lucky winners. Please send me an email and describe, "What helps you feel sexy after breast surgery?" All responses will be put into a bowl at the beginning of April. The winners will be chosen and notified at that time.
