Personal Relationships Improve Survival

The quality of a woman's social networks, the personal relationships that surround an individual, appears to be just as important as the size of her networks in predicting breast cancer survival, Kaiser Permanente scientists report in the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.

Combo Treatment may Improve Survival of Brain Mets

Adding an angiogenesis inhibitor to treatment with a HER2-inhibiting drug could improve outcomes for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer who develop brain metastases. In a study published in the journal PNAS Plus, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) investigators report the first preclinical study combining antiangiogenic and anti-HER2 drugs in an animal model of brain metastatic breast cancer.

Greetings!

The San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) happens during the month of December. This is the premier medical conference for breast cancer news and research updates. Over 8,000 medical professionals and 100 breast cancer advocates fly to San Antonio each year to learn about new treatments, studies and reconnect with each other. This year, I decided not to attend but will be following CURE Magazine's daily blog posts and the SABCS twitter feed (#SABCS). In the next couple of months, I'll be reporting on some of the exciting news coming out of the conference.

At the end of November, my friend and fellow advocate, Susan Zager, attended the ASCO Quality Care Symposium in San Diego. Visit her blog to read her summary of the conference.

Another friend of mine and fellow advocate, Dikla Benzeevi, attended the Breast Cancer in Young Women conference in Dublin, Ireland. She wrote a blog post describing her experience.

We are inundated with breast cancer awareness products during the month of October. Check out these great awareness videos all throughout the year. Guess which one is my favorite!

I wish you lots of good health this holiday season and in the coming year. May your holidays be filled with love, joy and fun!

Every year, Beyond Boobs! creates a calendar featuring breast cancer survivors and their stories. And, every year, Beyond Boobs! donates some of the calendars to our members. This year, they've donated 10 calendars! To enter the contest, please send me an email and describe your top 3 New Years resolutions. All entries will be placed in a bowl and the winners will be chosen at the beginning of January. All names and emails will be shared with Beyond Boobs!. Good luck!

Babies after Breast Cancer
Oocyte Preservation No Longer "Experimental" for Cancer Patients

For women hoping to have a biological child after breast cancer treatment, the only established method of fertility preservation was cryopreservation of an embryo. This meant the woman's oocyte (egg) was fertilized with sperm (either the woman's partner or a donor) and the resulting embryo would be put in a deep freeze until implantation could be attempted after treatment was finished.
We are entirely supported by your donation. Please consider donating to Pink-Link to continue our work of connecting breast cancer survivors online.
