Dealing with Bone Mets
Guest Post by Rachel Pappas, from 1UpOnCancer.comThe bones are the most common site of breast cancer metastasis, but there are treatments to manage or prevent complications, and a research push is on doing more with these therapies: to design them to actually treat the cancer in the bones and improve survival. One such drug is already achieving these results in prostate cancer patients with bone metastases, and is being looked at for breast cancer that has spread to the skeleton.

Babies after Breast Cancer
Guest post by Amy Jacobson, RN NP-BC UCLA LIVESTRONGTM Survivorship Center of ExcellenceIn an ideal world, along with chemotherapy classes, newly diagnosed breast cancer patients of reproductive age would receive counseling on how their treatment may negatively affect their ability to have children and what options are available to them to preserve it. Greetings!
This summer went by so fast for me! I can't believe the kids are back in school and fall is about to begin! I've been crazy busy planning our next fundraising event, " Tea for Tatas," on September 30th from 2-5pm hosted by Raleigh Studios Hollywood. It's going to be a fantastic event, so if you'll be in LA on that date, try to come. We'll be watching a performance of " Jonna's Body, Please Hold," written and performed by a 3 time cancer survivor. It's a funny yet dramatic look at cancer from the point of view of Jonna's body. It's a wonderful show and I know you'll enjoy it! | | Jonna's Body, Please Hold - live performance trailer |
We have been collecting many silent auction items including a 1 night stay at the Santa Ynez Inn in the Southern California wine country. What a great get-away to relax and taste some new wines! We also received a $50 gift certificate from Lucy Athletica so now you can really get going with exercise! Funds raised at this event will be used for our community outreach so all breast cancer survivors can get the help and support they need. I'd love to see you at the event, so register today! Sincerely, Victoria Tashman Pink-Link 310-995-5204

Kate Matthews, breast cancer survivor started drawing cartoons to keep her stress level down during treatment. She decided to publish all her cartoons in a book, "The Little Pink Book of (mostly)Cancer Cartoons (in color!)." She has generously donated 5 paperback copies and some e-book copies as well! To enter the contest, please send me an email with your answer to the following question, " How did you manage your stress during treatment?" All replies will be put in a big bowl and the winning names will be drawn at the beginning of October. Good luck!
