February's Book of the Month
Each month, Green Apple presents a truly excellent book, one that we guarantee you'll love. This month's pick comes from Green Appler Stephen.  Drumroll, please. . . . .

Dept. of Speculation
by Jenny Offill (Knopf)

Jenny Offill's remarkably crafted Dept. of Speculation is a moving story of love, art, parenthood, and infidelity. Narrated by "the wife," the novel charts the arc of a love affair, from first blush to eventual dissipation, along the way touching on all manner of subjects, from sleep deprivation to the usefulness of art. Full of insight and wry humor, the novel's impact far outstrips its modest size. It'll stick with you long after you've finished.  --SS

You can buy the book on our site, as an eBook, or in the store.

Thursday, February 6: Dan Coshnear and Genine Lentine

Please join us in the Granny Smith Room at 7pm in welcoming two authors published by Kelly's Cove Press.  It doesn't get much more local than this!

More details about both authors and their books are here.

Saturday, February 8: Willy Vlautin (don't miss this one!)

One of Green Apple's favorite authors will be here Saturday (with his guitar, we think), and you shouldn't miss it.  He's sweet and funny and charming and talented. If you ever thought of taking a chance on an author you have yet to read, join us!  If you have read him, you need to hear the words straight from the man's mouth.  More here.

Tuesday, February 11: Mireille Guiliano (at Hotel Rex)

Please join Green Apple Books at Hotel Rex at 7:00 p.m. to hear Mireille Guiliano read from her latest book, French Women Don't Get Facelifts.  Mireille shares the secrets and strategies of aging with attitude and joy, offering her advice, storytelling and humor while divulging the most guarded secrets French women know about looking and feeling great. She addresses everything from lotions and potions to diet, style, friendship and romance.

Tuesday, February 11: John Ralston

Please join us in the Granny Smith Room next Tuesday as we host John Ralston.  He'll read from and discuss his newest book Fremont Older & the 1916 S.F. Bombing: A Tireless Crusade for Justice out from History Press West.

In this compelling account, Ralston chronicles the events surrounding the initial tragedy as newspaper editor Fremont Older discovers the case is based on blatant perjury and exposes the secondary crime to the public. What became known as the "American Dreyfus Case" led to an international outcry, finally resulting in one defendant's pardon and the other's parole-but only after both men had been imprisoned for twenty-three years.

Tuesday, February 25: Joshua Max Feldman

Green Apple Books is pleased to present Joshua Max Feldman for a reading and book signing on Tuesday, February 25th! Feldman will be reading from his latest novel The Book of Jonah in our Granny Smith Room.

The modern-day Jonah at the center of Joshua Max Feldman's brilliantly conceived retelling of the book of Jonah is a young Manhattan lawyer named Jonah Jacobstein. He's a lucky man: healthy and handsome, with two beautiful women ready to spend the rest of their lives with him and an enormously successful career that gets more promising by the minute. He's celebrating a deal that will surely make him partner when a bizarre, unexpected biblical vision at a party changes everything. Hard as he tries to forget what he saw, this disturbing sign is only the first of many Jonah will witness, and before long his life is unrecognizable. Though this perhaps divine intervention will be responsible for more than one irreversible loss in Jonah's life, it will also cross his path with that of Judith Bulbrook, an intense, breathtakingly intelligent woman who's no stranger to loss herself. As this funny and bold novel moves to Amsterdam and then Las Vegas, Feldman examines the way we live now while asking an age-old question: How do you know if you're chosen?

Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,
