Greetings!

Well, our favorite season is upon us--readers buying piles of books for other bibliophiles.  Here are just a few of the ways we can help you find the right book (or other gift) for anyone on your list:
  • Small Business Saturday (free bags!);
  • a list of SIGNED books we currently stock;
  • our staff's favorite books of 2013;
  • Litographs, for those who love books and design;
  • our Apple-a-Month subscription program;
  • Kobo eReaders--read digitally and shop locally!
And remember: you can read digitally AND shop locally.  Our partnership with Kobo allows you to read eBooks on any device (except Kindle).  Sign up here and Green Apple will forever get a cut of your eBook purchases.

Small Business Saturday

free bag!

We're big supporters of the Shop Local movement, and we're gearing up for Small Business Saturday on November 30.

To that end, Green Apple will be giving away free re-usable shopping bag with every purchase.  We don't even have to charge you that $.10 SF bag ban fee!

Further, with any purchase of $50 or more, you'll receive a FREE So Many Books, So Little Time canvas tote bag (limit 200).

And if you have an American Express card and you register your card with them, you can get a $10 statement credit when you spend $10 or more here at Green Apple.  Details are here.
SIGNED books make great gifts

Some top-notch authors come through the store, and we're not shy about asking them to sign their books.  We'll do our best to keep the list updated on our web site here

Yes, we do ship anywhere, and US shipping is free with orders of $35 or more.

Among our signed copies as of now:
Our Favorite Books of 2013

There are 28 of us who toil at Green Apple, and we all read widely, of course.  Lots of advance reader's copies (ARCs) from publishers, but also lots of older books.  The piles next to our beds never seem to shrink.

Now we're always willing to help you find just the right book for the right person, be it your persnickety Uncle Cletus or your beloved Aunt May.  But here are the books that we loved the most this year.  Please come pick our brains in the store--it's the best part of the job, connecting good books to great readers!

Our favorites books of 2013.
Litographs
Our favorite non-book gift this year is still a book, sort of.  Confused?  Let me try again.

We carry an assortment of titles from Litographs, a Cambridge company run by two swell brothers.  They take the entire text of a great book, hand it over to a talented designer, and make posters and tote bags from the text.

In the store, we have about 40 posters ($24.95) and 20 tote bags ($29.95) from which to choose.  You can't order them from us online, and you really have to see it to believe it.  They're at the top of the stairs in the main store.  (Yep; that's the entire text of Alice in Wonderland).
Apple-a-Month Subscription
We often hear that customers come to Green Apple to peruse our recommendations. But if you live far away, have a schedule that inhibits your ability to read hundreds of handwritten index cards before selecting your next book, or are looking for a perfect gift for the bibliophile in your life: the Apple-a-Month Club is here for you.

Here's how it works: We pore over stacks of soon-to-be-released fiction to find the paperback original we're most excited about. The only guiding policy is that every book we pick will be new, fiction, and appealing to a broad range of readers. Why take the risk? Well, we're hoping you might discover something you never would have picked up elsewhere. You can then look forward to getting a new book with a handwritten note about why we love it in the mail once a month. As publication dates vary, so will the delivery date -- that's part of the fun.

Check out this list to see what we've recommended so far.  Or just take the plunge here

Kobo eReaders
If you know someone who reads eBooks, we hope you'll consider a Kobo device.  While not as ubiquitous as Kindle, they're rated very highly in head-to-head match-ups.

We carry three models right now.  The Glo, which I can personally vouch for; the light is great for reading in bed while your partner snoozes.  The Aura HD is the Rolls Royce of e-readers: it holds 3,000 books and goes forever on one charge.  And the Arc 7 is a great Android tablet with reading at its core (arriving in-store next week).

And if you buy a Kobo from us, Green Apple will get half of the profit from each eBook sold to that device thereafter.  So you're supporting Green Apple with each eBook purchase.
Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,
