There has been some confusion over the e-mail that I sent out two months ago about changing the name of the business to Indy Tankless Water Heaters. First and foremost, I am and will always continue to do regular plumbing repairs such as fixing toilets, faucets, garbage disposals and sump pumps. This will never change as long as I'm in business. I am however going to focus on and specialize in tankless water heaters moving forward. The name change will also give me the ability to more readily sell the business when I retire in the next 10-15 years. So with all of that being said, the name Heffner Plumbing is here to stay along with the fact that I'm doing all of the repair work that I have done in the past.

I had a "Proud Papa" moment earlier this month when our oldest daughter Caitlin, graduated from Ben Davis High School as the Valedictorian on June 13th. This was no small feat to accomplish in a class of over 900 students. Caitlin finished her high school career with a 5.0571 GPA! My wife and I feel truly blessed to have such a hard working and intelligent daughter(s). Cailtin heads to Purdue University this fall to major in Neuro Engineering. Her career goal is to do brain research.

Flooded Basements Are NO FUN!
Hydromatic sump pump
The recent rains have wreaked havoc here in Central Indiana in many different ways. There are several ways for your sump pump to fail whether it be loss of power, a failed switched, a jammed impeller or an obstructed discharge line. I have had several recent requests for an assessment of sump pump and back-up systems. If you are interested in having this done, please call the office to schedule an appointment.

It is also extremely important to make sure that your homeowners insurance policy has a rider for flooding from sump pump failure. If you don't have this rider on your policy and your basement floods from a sump pump failure, you could be responsible to pay all of the resulting damage. I had a customer in Fishers years ago who ended up with a $250,000 claim for a flooded basement that the insurance company contested. DON'T be that person!

Freeze Damaged Hose Bibbs
I see this every year without fail. This past winter wasn't as severe as the previous one, but we still had several days with sub-zero temperatures where hose bibbs could become freeze damaged. Please don't just turn on the hose and run it for hours watering the yard without checking to see if there is a leak. One telltale sign is diminished water pressure when you turn the hose bibb on. If you have an unfinished basement, checking for a leak once the hose is turned on will be obvious. With finished basements or crawlspaces, making that determination is a more difficult. All I know is that this kind of freeze damage can cause thousands of dollars in water damage in a home if the hose is run for an extended period of time.
