Helpful Hint
(Gunnery) Sergeant Carter says:

Pyle-  Labor Day weekend is coming up. Do you know how to shut the water off to the house if you are going away for vacation? This simple step could save you thousands of dollars in water damage should a hose or water line were to burst!

I recently installed a water heater for a customer who was alerted that the water heater was leaking because of a device called Wally. The system is unique in that it uses the electrical wiring in the walls of your home to communicate with its sensors. The hub is connected to your home's computer which enables it to send e-mails and text messages when the sensors detect water, high humidity levels or high/low air temperature levels when there's a problem.

I purchased one of these systems for our home and actually got an e-mail/text message recently when our youngest daughter got water on the floor while she was taking a shower. Fortunately, there was no damage, but this definitely made an impression with our girls about being more careful in the bathroom.

This system can be useful for all homeowners, but it's especially important for those that have vacation homes or for those that snowbird. Wally provides 24/7 protection and the company even has a concierge service for those that need a service provider to fix whatever problems they may be having.

The standard WallyHome package comes with a hub and 6 sensors for $299.00 plus shipping. These can be purchased either from Heffner Plumbing or ordered directly from the manufacturer for the same price.

Mind Before You Grind!

I had two clogged garbage disposal service calls in the past week that could have been prevented. Always re-member the following:

1.  Run plenty of COLD water before, during and after using the disposal.

2.  Stay away from fibrous items like celery.

3.  Small quantities with whatever is going into the disposal is best.

4.  When in doubt, throw it out!

Best wishes,
