Gunnery Sergeant Hartman says:

Got any liquid drain cleaner in the house? If so, get rid of it. These products are dangerous and despite what the commercials say, harmful to pipes. If you can't unclog it with a plunger, call a plumber!

Greetings!

Happy 4th of July! I truly hope that this day can be spent enjoying time with your family and friends as we all celebrate the 237th anniversary of the founding of our great nation.

As grills gets fired up and kitchens get busy, just a friendly reminder to not overload your garbage disposal. Use plenty of water before, during and after running the disposal and toss those fibrous items and potato peels in the trash!

  4th of July for 2013

Plumbing 101. The first class is scheduled for July 27, 2013 which is just a few short weeks away...

I have finalized all of the details for the class that I will be teaching at IUPUI's Division of Continuing Studies. It will be called "Plumbing 101" and is designed for new and not so new homeowners that want to gain a better understanding of what their plumbing system is all about. Part of the class will also cover some Do It Yourself plumbing tips.

The first class is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 10:00 AM to noon and the cost for this is $49.00. If you register before by July 21st, there is a 10% early bird discount.

When you click on the link for IUPUI, go to "Course Offerings" on the right hand side of the page. Toward the bottom of that page will be a listing called "New Courses!" Click on Plumbing 101 and you can register from there.

Talking sump pumps? Not quite, but mine now has a system that will text me when there is a problem!

I learned about and have purchased for my own home a new type of high water alarm system that is cellular and will send text messages to 3 different cell phones when high water is detected in the sump pit or by the floor for the water heater. The system is called the PitBoss and runs on normal a/c power, but also has batteries that will power the unit in case of a power failure. I have seen a lot of innovative changes in the plumbing industry over the last 25 years, but I have to admit that this system is pretty slick.
