Have you talked to your insurance agent about a rider for your sump pump yet? You can pay now or pay a whole lot more later people. Pick up that phone and make that call!

Greetings!

Through the help of a friend, I just recently started ground school (at a greatly reduced rate) to get my Private Pilot's license. The one thing about flying is that you never take off or land without going through a checklist for all of the things that need to be done to ensure the safety and proper operation of the aircraft. Although plumbing is far different from flying, there are certain things that do need to be checked to ensure proper operation. With water heaters and sump pumps/back-up systems, periodic maintenance and inspections can help prevent costly flooding and water damage. With all of that being said, I'm in the process of creating a maintenance agreement for customers that are so inclined to have an annual inspection. My goal is to have this up and running by August.

Talking sump pumps? Not quite, but mine now has a system that will text me when there is a problem!

I learned about and have purchased for my own home a new type of high water alarm system that is cellular and will send text messages to 3 different cell phones when high water is detected in the sump pit or by the floor for the water heater. The system is called the PitBoss and runs on normal a/c power, but also has batteries that will power the unit in case of a power failure. I have seen a lot of innovative changes in the plumbing industry over the last 25 years, but I have to admit that this system is pretty slick.

It will be called "Plumbing 101" and is designed for new and not so new homeowners that want to gain a better understanding of what their plumbing system is all about. Part of the class will also cover some Do It Yourself plumbing tips.

The first class is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 10:00 AM to noon and the cost for this is $49.00. If you register before by July 21st, there is a 10% early bird discount.

When you click on the link for IUPUI, go to "Course Offerings" on the right hand side of the page. Toward the bottom of that page will be a listing called "New Courses!" Click on Plumbing 101 and you can register from there.
