Bakers Island:
Keepers of the Light

This summer marked the first season
of guided tours to Bakers Island Light Station! For the first time in over 70 years the public was granted access to this historic landmark. Some of the visitors came across the harbor to fulfill years of curiosity but others were deeply connected to the Light Station through their service in the U.S Coast Guard. Read on to learn more.
National Register Nomination for Merrimac Town Hall
Partnership Grant Spotlight

With the goal of adding its town hall to the National Register of Historic Places, the Town of Merrimac prepared and submitted a nomination to the Massachusetts Historical Commission (MHC). The "Ruskinian" Gothic style structure was built in 1876 to serve as the town hall for the newly incorporated Town of Merrimac. In addition to instilling local pride, the National Register listing will make the building eligible for preservation grants. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the American cultural resources worthy of preservation. It is administered at the state level by MHC and nationally by the National Park Service.
