Essex Heritage
Hero Award Dinner
Location Changed!

Due to the overwhelming response, the Essex Heritage Hero Award Dinner is moving to the Danversport Yacht Club on October 16, 2013. Everyone is saying "YES"!

We are surprised and delighted that the number of friends and supporters who want to join Essex Heritage in celebrating Joanne Holbrook Patton and the Patton Family has greatly exceeded our expectations. While we are sorry to give up the lovely Willowdale Estate, this facility cannot accommodate our growing numbers.

So, please Join Us on Wednesday, October 16 at the Danversport Yacht Club, starting at 5:30pm.

Tickets are available for purchase online and you still have time to become a sponsor or buy a congratulatory ad.

Say Cheese (Cave)!
A Historic Farm Seeks to Build A Cheese Cave
for Essex County

Valley View Farm is the only working dairy in Topsfield, and one of the only goat cheese producers in Essex County. A family farm with kids, human and goat - the Mulhollands have produced delicious handcrafted farmstead goat milk and artisanal cow milk cheeses since 1998. And now, they are building an old-world cave into the farm's hillside that will allow them to enhance their cheese offerings, craft aged artisanal cheese, grow their farm and expand their community outreach efforts. A Kickstarter fundraising campaign has been launched to help them complete the cheese cave to authentically age cheese for Essex County. Learn more. Check out the cheese cave construction photos.

Call For Partners: Decorated Evergreen Scavenger Hunt

Cape Ann Museum decorated Evergreen at Seine Field
Essex County Greenbelt is seeking partners to participate in the 2nd Annual Decorated Evergreen Scavenger Hunt. Last December's first self-guided scavenger hunt for decorated evergreen trees on Greenbelt and other protected land was a big hit. Are you interested in helping out this year? Greenbelt is reaching out once again to groups and individuals to help select and decorate an evergreen on one of its properties or other conservation land in your community. Working together with Greenbelt, your organization will provide clues that will help people locate the tree and register their success with photos. If you, or a group would like to participate, contact 978-768-7241, ext. 13 or email mew@ecga.org.
Read About the Region

Lighthouses and Lifesaving Stations on Cape Ann by local author Paul St. Germain, boasts more than 200 historic images highlighting the maritime history, heroism and dedication of the lighthouse keepers and lifesaving surfmen who served. A Rockport resident for 18 years with a view of both Thacher and Straitsmouth Islands from his home, St. Germain worked with the Cape Ann Museum, the Sandy Bay Historical Society archives, U.S. Coast Guard Historian and other private collections to put together a most revealing record and a fascinating history through vintage photographs of the lighthouses and life saving stations around Cape Ann.
