Partnership Grants Application Deadline
Applications due: Sunday, February 17, 2013
Essex Heritage is currently accepting online applications for the 2013 Essex Heritage Partnership Grant Program. The Partnership Grant Program is a matching grant program created to foster and support the stewardship activities of organizations that share the Commission's mission to preserve and promote the historic, cultural and natural resources of the Essex National Heritage Area.
Essex Heritage will award $1,500 grants to ten (10) qualified applicants who apply for funding in one of three categories: Education, Interpretation, and Preservation. Essex Heritage Director Annie Harris attended the annual meeting of the Alliance in DC. The evening reception at Capitol Hill was attended by members of the National Heritage Area Congressional Caucus - including Congressman John Tierney and Congresswoman Niki Tsongas. The Director of the National Park Service, Jon Jarvis, spoke enthusiastically about the important role the heritage areas play in conserving large landscapes and providing recreation and educational benefits to their regions. Caucus chairmen Congressman Dent of Ohio and Congressman Tonko of NY announced they had refilled the bill to make the National Heritage Area Program a permanent part of the National Park Service.

Benefits of Local Historic Preservation Designation
There are many great benefits of a Local Historic Preservation designation. One of the strongest reasons to seek local historic district designation is to protect and preserve local resources, even while the community is changing. If you are working to inspire your friends, neighbors and community leaders to establish a Local Historic District, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has a few tips that might help.
