About: building the foundation
As of tomorrow morning, the first month of school is behind us. Much as the first days build routines and habits for months to come, an Aspen Country Day education builds a foundation for the lives of our graduates. Our mission is to instill "a lifelong love of learning, sense of purpose, and responsible citizenship."
Here's a story from two recent graduates that speaks to this aspect of our mission. Mac Taylor, a junior at St. Paul's School (NH) and Austin Corona, a senior at Middlesex School (Mass.) were youth reporters at the Aspen Ideas Festival last summer. Their articles are evidence of their foundation in critical thinking, communication, and creativity.
ACDS graduates build lives of meaning upon the solid foundation they receive here on Castle Creek. Children here today, in these beautiful last days of September, are building their foundations daily. Where will their own journeys lead?

Video of the week: Parents in the learning seat
Middle School teachers brought classroom lessons to life for parents, putting the grownups in the role of students. Analyze this chapter from Animal Farm! Find the tectonic plates on this map! Speak with your partners in Spanish! Parents got right to work.

DID YOU KNOW? info about ACDS you may have missed.
This week: trending towards the midvalley
Every week we will offer one tidbit of info you may not already know about our school.
What percent of students do you think come to our school from the Aspen district, and which from the other side of the line (roughly Watson Divide and farther downvalley)?
This year the figures stand at:
- 58% live in the Aspen School District attendance area
- 42% live in the RE1 district (Basalt-Glenwood schools)
That's a change from the 2012-13 year, when the 65% resided in the Aspen district and 35% in the RE1 district. Aspen Country Day School continues to play an important role in providing choice in education for families seeking to select a program that is the best match for their children -- no matter where in the valley they live.
