About the NLLD
The North Lafourche Conservation, Levee, and Drainage District (known as NLLD) was formed in 1992 to provide drainage and flood protection services for the northern portion of Lafourche Parish, including the entire parish north of the Intracoastal Canal.

The District includes over 250 miles of levees and drainage canals, and over 40 pump stations.

The NLLD office is located at 627 Jackson Street,
Thibodaux, LA  70301.

 Thank You for Your Support!
Voters Approve Funding for Levee Construction

Thanks to all of you who showed your support for the timely construction of levees and pumps in North Lafourche during the May 2 election!  Voters within the North Lafourche Levee District (NLLD) approved a quarter-cent sales tax solely dedicated to building critical levees and other priority flood protection projects from the northern end of the parish to the Intracoastal Waterway in Larose.

The sales tax is estimated to generate approximately $2.2 million per year dedicated to construction only, and this sales tax revenue will also be leveraged to attract more state and federal money for the local levee projects.

The NLLD has developed a plan of priority levee, flood protection and drainage improvement projects that benefit residents throughout the District and will achieve a higher level of protection that our communities deserve. Revenue from the sales tax will now allow the District to more quickly complete the levees and pump stations in this plan and provide residents with additional levee protection and better drainage sooner than it could have with previous funding alone.

NLLD Director Testifies to Senate Committee About Need for Flood Insurance Fix

NLLD Executive Dwayne Bourgeois testified at a U.S. Senate Committee meeting May 1 in New Orleans on the local impacts on higher flood insurance rates and the need for more accurate flood maps.  Bourgeois and the NLLD have been local champions for homeowners and business owners impacted by changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

In his testimony, Bourgeois insisted that existing flood insurance policyholders who have not had repetitive losses should be able to purchase flood insurance at approximately the same cost as before changes were made to the program. He also cited the imbalance in cost and revenue for the NFIP, with the program collecting over $9.67 billion more in premiums than it paid in claims between 1978 and 2013, and the huge lack of mandatory participation in the program, which drives up the cost for those who do have flood insurance.

"I am honored to have been invited to speak to the Senate Committee members about the impacts that the current flood insurance program is having on Lafourche Parish property owners. Residents who for years have responsibly met all flood insurance requirements should not now be hit with substantial rate increases or face unjustified new requirements," Bourgeois said.
