About the NLLD
The North Lafourche Conservation, Levee, and Drainage District (known as NLLD) was formed in 1992 to provide drainage and flood protection services for the northern portion of Lafourche Parish, including the entire parish north of the Intracoastal Canal.

The District includes over 250 miles of levees and drainage canals, and over 40 pump stations.

The NLLD office is located at 627 Jackson Street,

Heavy Rains Test Local Drainage
Planned Projects Will Improve System

More heavy rain fell in Lafourche Parish yesterday, and the North Lafourche Levee District was on alert, ready to respond to serious flooding threats. The rain event tested our local levees, drainage and pump systems; however, for the most part, the systems managed by the North Lafourche Levee District, the cities, and the Parish successfully withstood the pressure and protected homes and businesses from severe flooding.

"The rain we've had the past few weeks has demonstrated to the levee district and to all of us residents just how threatening rain events like this can be.  We understand the risk we face when a hurricane is churning in the Gulf, but as we have seen in recent weeks, rain from a regular weather feature can threaten us with severe flooding as well,"  says NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois.

That is why the NLLD has been working diligently to maintain and improve drainage and pump systems throughout the District, and why it is critical to complete planned levee and drainage improvement projects as quickly as possible.

"Much work has been done, and a great deal of work is in progress, but completing planned projects in a timely manner will provide us the best protection possible, not just from hurricane storm surge, but also from severe rain events like we just experienced," Bourgeois concludes.

The NLLD's Comprehensive Drainage and Flood Protection Project list can be found on the District's website and viewed here.
