Currently Jerome Preston Bates is an actor with Oregon Shakespeare Theater where he appeared as Mr. West in Two Trains Running
and returning in Comedy of Errors & Richard III. Bates is most noted as originating the role of Floyd Barton in Seven Guitars
. His Broadway credits include Dr. Joe Levay in Stickfly and Seven Guitars as Floyd Barton & Canewell. Bates has graced the stages of The Public Theater, Yale Rep, The Goodman, Hartford Stage, Wilma Theater, Alliance Theater, Classical Theater of Harlem, People's Light & Theatre, Crossroads, Negro Ensemble Co., Folger Shakespeare Theater and many more. He has appeared on television in OZ, All My Children, Law & Order, SVU, New York Undercover, Lights Out, Third Watch, and NYPD Blue. Recent film credits include PEEPLES [opposite Kerry Washington], Tio Papi, Musical Chairs, SHAFT with Sam Jackson, and HEAD OF STATE opposite Chris Rock. Jerome has trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, HB Studios, Lee Strasberg Institute, Gene Frankel Studio, Weist Barron & Clay Stevenson. He has worked with the likes of Viola Davis, Ruben Santiago Hudson, Vincent D'nafrio, Jerry Orbach, Malik Yoba, Frankie Faison, Rosalyn Coleman, Condola Rashad,

Scene Study Class
The course will allow students to work with their peers in class on scenes; focusing on m aking appropriate acting choices, creating a character & develop effective audition techniques. Whether scenes or monologues, Mr.Bates will give you the tools to sharpen your craft and book the job.

Performing August Wilson
 This class focuses on the characters, spirit, and rhythms of performing August Wilson's work. Actors will choose monologues or scenes they wish to work on. Mr.Bates will share his knowledge on August Wilson's approach to the work, process of creating the stories, and characters from the [August Wilson] Ten Play Cycle.

Business of Surviving in NYC
Jerome Preston Bates will instruct students on the keys of surviving as an actor in New York City. You will learn how to utilize contacts, resources, tips on finding a survival job and make the right choices to build a successful acting career.
