Teacher Spotlight
Thank You to Ms. Aileen Adley, Mrs. Cindy Nehemias, Mrs. Vicky Paulson, Mrs. Cyndee Hackney, Deacon Serge Dube and Mrs. Kelly Kelly for Your Years of Service and Dedication

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT ROSARIAN? WHAT ROLES/POSITIONS HAVE YOU HAD AT THE SCHOOL?

Ms. Adley: Since 1976, I've been a fourth grade teacher and a French teacher in grades four through twelve.

Ms. Cindy: I began my career at Rosarian in 1994 as a teacher's assistant to Marie Shultz in the one and only Montessori classroom. When Marie moved back to Michigan, I was asked to be an 'interim' Director/Head teacher of the preschool program by Mary DeVault, the principal at that time. I served in that role until Denise Vincent was hired as our preschool Director. When Denise retired a few years later, I was again the 'fill-in' Director/Head Teacher. I maintained that position until Megan Cloar took the position of Director of Early Childhood 3 years ago.

Mrs. Paulson: Eighteen years as Director of Finance.

Mrs. Hackney: Twelve years. Grade 5 English/Literature/Social Studies teacher; Grade 6 English teacher; Literature Department Chair; English Department Chair; Master In-service Program Coordinator; Moderator - Games of Strategy; Moderator - The BLUE Team.

Deacon Serge: Eight and a half years: long term sub first grade; 5th grade religion; 6th grade religion/history; K-4, 5th and 7th computers; Dean of Discipline; Sacristan; Virtus, Protecting God's Children facilitator

Mrs. Kelly: Eight years: Spanish teacher; 8th grade homeroom moderator; yellow team captain

WHAT IS YOUR FONDEST MEMORY OF THE SCHOOL?

Ms. Adley: I have many, many fond memories. I have been blessed with happy memories.

Ms. Cindy
I have loved most being a part of the Rosarian family - watching my former students grow from year to year. It has always been a special blessing to me to see them up on the stage in the various productions over the years, especially when my daughter was a student here and had some wonderful roles on stage under the excellent leadership of Mr. Sherman. I have also always felt particularly proud whenever 'my' Charter students cross the stage at the graduation ceremony each year. I feel like everybody's 'grandma' at graduation time, my heart bursts with pride!

Mrs. Paulson:  Having the opportunity to meet and work with many wonderful parents and staff.

Mrs. HackneyI am fondest of my opportunity to visit the Mother House in Adrian, Michigan and meeting the remarkable women who sponsor this wonderful school.

Deacon Serge: Watching students who struggle work through their challenges and actualize their potential.

Mrs. KellyI absolutely love teaching and genuinely enjoy getting to know each and every student I have. I love them like my own. I always say... teaching makes me a better mom, and being a mom makes me a better teacher.

WHAT WILL YOU MISS THE MOST ABOUT ROSARIAN?

Ms. Adley: I'll miss the people: my students, the faculty and staff, parents and RA families.

Ms. CindyThe warm and loving families that I have come to know and feel connected with over the years. I have felt nurtured, appreciated and so honored to be a part of the Rosarian Community. I will miss all of it!

Mrs. Paulson: The sound of children - their exuberant enthusiasm and laughter.

Mrs. Hackney
: I will miss attending Wednesday morning chapel. This group has been  very supportive throughout the years.

Deacon SergePraying with students and staff and answering student questions. My best days were when our class was turned from the assigned lesson of the day by an insightful question or two and then turned to an energetic group  full of discussion, more questions and respectful debate. Those days were priceless! When students are asking questions they show their hunger to learn.

Mrs. KellyI will miss all the friendships I have formed with the faculty and staff. RA has truly been a second family to me. It takes a village! I am profoundly grateful for all the smiles, laughter and memories with so many.

WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO IN YOUR RETIREMENT?

Ms. Adley: I'll spend time with my family.

Ms. CindyFirst and foremost, my son's wife is delivering twin grandsons this summer. Since they already have one awesome 2-year-old son, I know my summer will be busy with being available to all of them. As my own children's families are growing (the twins arrival will make me 'Nana' to 5!), it is my hope to be as available to them as our finances allow. I will need to seek employment in a position where my knees will not be an issue and am simply being open to God's call for me.

Mrs. PaulsonSpend the summer with grandchildren in North Carolina, travel, read, sew, learn to quilt, and experiment with container gardening.

Mrs. HackneyI will be working as a legal assistant, and I will be assisting my 90 year old parents.

ANY FINAL WORDS YOU WISH TO SHARE WITH THE ROSARIAN COMMUNITY?

Ms. Adley: Congratulations on Rosarian's 90th anniversary! God bless Rosarian Academy!

Ms. CindyThank you for including me in this Christian community of education for the past 19 years. Rosarian Academy is indeed blessed and spreads God's blessings with abundance. You are in my heart forever!

Mrs. PaulsonAlways remember that each person is an important part of making Rosarian the special place that it is.

Mrs. HackneyI have enjoyed the years here at Rosarian. I feel blessed that I have a been a part of Catholic education.

Deacon SergeI am thankful and blessed to have been a teacher at Rosarian Academy. I taught some but learned so much more. I loved being in a setting that was open to prayer. After eight and a half years I am ready to graduate and head off to Cardinal Newman High School. Students, parents, faculty, administration and staff - thank you all for your love, kindness and support. Peace and all God's good.

Mrs. Kelly: Thank you for the memories. I will hold them close to my heart. I hope I have made my Kelly Kelly mark on yours.

Party to Honor Virginia Devine's 31 Years of Service
Class of 1981 Alumna Dani Moore Hosts Retirement Party

Nearly 250 members of the Rosarian Academy community--including alumni, faculty, staff, grandparents, and parents from as far back as 1976--gathered at the home of class of 1981 alumna, Danielle Hickox Moore, on Friday, May 23, to celebrate and honor Rosarian Academy's principal, Virginia Devine, who is retiring after 31 years of service to the school. Her last day will be June 30th. We extend our appreciation to Martha Schar and Dani Moore for generously hosting the lovely evening.

Since 1976, Virginia L. Devine has been an essential part of furthering the mission of Rosarian Academy. Ms. Devine spent 31 out of 37 years of her career in education serving, guiding and leading the Rosarian students and community as Teacher, Coach, Admissions Director, Assistant Principal and Principal. Her unwavering dedication to excellence in education is exemplified through the successes of each student who has entered the Academy's doors during her tenure. As school Principal for four years, Ms. Devine's leadership in supporting the expansion of the Early Childhood Program has proven to be most successful with the inclusion of toddlers and addition of classrooms. In May 2013, she saw the great potential and benefits that a facility dog could bring to Rosarian Academy; so, she adopted Jodi, a three-year-old Golden Retriever, from Genesis Assistance Dogs Inc and brings Jodi to Rosarian daily to work as a therapeutic partner to students and faculty through her unconditional love, understanding and acceptance.  Ms. Devine's commitment extends beyond the gates of the school and into the community. She has been spotted as a representative of Rosarian on many weekends--running races for a plethora of local charities, gleaning corn for the needy in the community, or supporting other community outreach service projects. Her steadfast faith and service to others is an inspiration to everyone.  Proper grammar, excellent etiquette, poise, and a sense of humor are just the beginning of Virginia Devine's legacy at Rosarian Academy and in the Palm Beach Community.

Meet the Authors
Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Students Publish and Present Their Very Own Works

Meet Rosarian Academy's authors. May 14,15 and 16, kindergarten, first and second grades presented their very own published books to fellow classmates, teachers, parents and grandparents. All three grade levels spent a few weeks authoring stories and poems. Incorporating the rules and writing process presented to them throughout this school year, they brainstormed, wrote, proofread, edited and published their own work. Bounded into hardcover books, these stories and poems are accompanied by the students' illustrations.

Kindergarten and first grade authors chose to write about their favorite things, from the child's favorite pet or sport to the germination of a flower and its process to blossom. Second graders wrote poems--describing themselves today, their experience in second grade, their family, and what they will be doing twenty years from now.
First Communicants Receive Communion with Classmates for First Time
May Crowning Mass

The Lower School's annual May Crowning Liturgy took place on May 20, in the Rosary Chapel. Our First Communicants who already received the sacrament in their parish church had the opportunity to receive communion with their classmates for the first time. Dressed in their beautiful First Communion attire, second graders delivered the readings and crowned the Blessed Mother. A "breaking of the bread" reception for second graders and their parents followed the Mass.

Fourth grader Blair Haft read all 30 titles this year. Way to go, Blair!!
Early Childhood to Open Third Three-to-Five Year Old Classroom
New Children's House Classroom to Open for 2014-15 School Year

Rosarian Academy Early Childhood Director, Megan Cloar, announced the expansion of the school's growing and popular Montessori pre-school program. Due to an extensive waiting list and high demand for the Children's House program, the administration has decided to open a third Children's House classroom for ages 3-5 years old.

Utilizing existing classroom space in the school, the new Early Childhood classroom will replicate the amazing learning environment of the school's existing two Children's House classrooms.

Since joining Rosarian in the summer of 2011 as the Director of Early Childhood, Megan has helped the program over triple in size.  "When I came, there were 23 students enrolled in the program. Today we have close to 70 students with the plans of an additional 18 by the start of next school year. Word in the local community is getting out. We are true to the Montessori philosophy of educating the whole child, and we have the best staff and nicest facilities around," said Megan Cloar

NJHS Students Paint Their Hearts Out
19 Students Spend Their Saturday Painting a Local 88-year-old's Home

Led by the National Junior Honor Society, 19 students, a few parents, and Mr. Hansen spent half of Saturday, May 10, painting a house for a disabled 88-year-old woman in West Palm Beach. As part of its sponsorship of Paint Your Heart, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County provided the recycled paint and painting supplies at no cost to the homeowner. It was a great event because the students had an opportunity to serve a fellow member of the community in need while also learning valuable life skills.

Rosarian Community Gleans Corn for the Local Less Fortunate

There was representation from all sections of the school, including the Jr. Toddler House, Toddler House, Children's House, Lower School and Middle School.

Sixth Grade Travels to St. Augustine
Class Field Trip

The sixth grade spent two days of their last week of school touring St. Augustine, the oldest continually occupied European settlement in continental North America. A few of the trip highlights included visiting Castillo de San Marco, the coquina fort built by the Spanish in 1672; getting fingerprinted at the oldest jail built by Henry Flagler in 1891; drinking from the Fountain of Youth where Ponce de Leon came ashore to claim Florida for Spain in 1513; riding a tram through the city; and watching a blacksmith make nails and wrought iron items at a Colonial Spanish Quarter.

Middle School Students Cast Their Ballots
Student Council Officers Elected for 2014-2015

With running mates determined, election posters strategically placed around campus, and speeches prepared, the Student Council Officer candidates spent a few minutes each persuading the Middle School student body why they deserved to be elected. After listening intently to the speeches for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, the fifth, sixth and seventh graders cast their votes. A run off and re-vote was required to determine the official outcome.

Congratulations to the following students voted to lead and represent Rosarian Academy for the 2014-2015 school year as Student Council Officers:

President / Vice President: Mac Murphy and Hailey Hersey (rising 8th graders)

Secretary: Sarah Elhilow (rising 8th grader)

Treasurer: Gina Landrum (rising 8th grader)

The offices of President and Vice President were open to rising eighth grade students only. Secretary and Treasurer were open independently to rising seventh and eighth grade students. Student Council classroom representative elections will be held the beginning of next school year.

Eighth Grade Baccalaureate Mass Returns to Theater
Graduation Mass Held at St. Edward Church for The Last Six Years

The Baccalaureate Mass honoring the Class of 2014 graduates returned to Rosarian Academy's Theater on Thursday, May 29, after being held at St. Edward Church for the last six years. Traditionally, graduation Mass was always held on campus in Rosarian's theater. During the six years the theater was closed for renovations, the school had to find an off-campus site for Mass and was granted permission to use St. Edward Church. This year, Principal Virginia Devine decided to return to tradition and bring the Mass back to Rosarian's campus. Father Brian King, secretary to Bishop Barbarito, celebrated the liturgy.

Rosarian Graduates 32 Students
Congratulations Class of 2014

Rosarian Academy graduated another 32 young men and women from its eighth grade class on Thursday, May 29, 2014, in the school Theater. Class of 2003 alumna and former Palm Beach resident, Meredith Hunt, addressed the Class of 2014 as the commencement speaker. It was a beautiful and moving graduation ceremony-not only honoring the graduates for their hard work and achievements but also recognizing Principal Virginia Devine and her 31 years of service to the school.

As a seventh-grade student at Rosarian Academy, Meredith had Ms. Devine in English class and described Ms. Devine as her favorite teacher, "To this day, Rosarian Academy holds such a dear place in my heart, and I am so grateful to be here in light of Ms. Devine's retirement...She always taught me to believe in myself and always strive to achieve my goals." Meredith graduated number one in her class and then proceeded to Cardinal Newman where she was valedictorian. She graduated from Brown University Magna Cum Laude and then from William & Mary Law School Summa Cum Laude and the top 10% of her class.

As Ms. Devine inspired Meredith, Meredith inspired the graduates with words of encouragement, "Stay true to yourself and resist peer pressure...As you step into this next phase of your life, remember the power of commitment, dedication, and ambition."

Following the commencement address, parent Paula Cook was recognized with the "Rose and Torch Award" for her countless hours of service to the school over the last ten years. Awards given to students included the Academic Excellence Award, presented to Lilly Cooney as the number one student in the eighth grade class, and the Rowdy Award, honoring Tony Azqueta for most outstanding athletic achievement. Both Lilly and Tony will attend Cardinal Newman High School.

In her closing remarks to the students, Ms. Devine said, "The school will always be a part of you, and you will always be a part it. That's just what happens here...As you go forward, set the world on fire with your goodness, passion and joy."

2013 - 2014 Student of the Year
Chloe Mikus Honored at Kiwanis Club Luncheon

Eighth grade student, Chloe Mikus, was honored as the school's 2013-2014 Kiwanis Club Student of the Year. As a Student of the Year honoree, Chloe delivered a speech at the May 6th, Kiwanis Club of Palm Beach luncheon, where she stated, "By honoring me today you are also honoring Rosarian Academy, my teachers and my parents because they have all made me who I am today."

Chloe attended the luncheon at the Chesterfield Hotel accompanied by Principal Ms. Virginia Devine and history teacher Ms. Kathy Moormann, and parents.

8th Grader Selected to Receive Scholarship from the Palm Beach Diocesan Council of Catholic Women
Congratulations Kayla Becerra

Rosarian Academy eighth-grader Kayla Becerra was chosen to represent the Southern Deanery in the Palm Beach Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (PBDCCW) Scholarship Program. The PBDCCW awarded $1,000 scholarships to three eighth grade girls in the Diocese of Palm Beach who are graduating middle school and planning to attend a Catholic High School in the Diocese of Palm Beach in the fall.

Each applicant completed a lengthy application, including documentation of how she exemplifies leadership qualities in school, parish activities and community service; recommendations from 1.) a teacher, guidance counselor or school principal 2.) parish priest or religious education director 3.) personal friend or community leader; and a short essay outlining her values and goals as a Catholic student and how they have influenced her to continue in a Catholic High School.

As part of Kayla's short essay, she wrote, "I am a strong believer in community service. I am an altar server and belong to the youth group that volunteers to help our parish. I'm a member of the National Junior Honor Society which provides me with more opportunities to give back to my community. Continuing my Catholic education will help me become a well-rounded person."

RA Brothers on a Quest to Become Junior Rangers in 59 National Parks
Caleb and Aiden Miller are Currently Junior Rangers in 16 Parks

Rosarian Academy third-grader Caleb Miller and his younger brother, Aiden (second grade), are on a quest to be sworn into the Junior Ranger Program of all 59 National Parks in the United States with the end goal of an invitation to the White House. Since starting this mission three years ago, the boys have sixteen parks under their belts and have mapped out an additional six national parks to hit this summer.

After learning about Mount Rushmore in his kindergarten class, Caleb Miller brought home "One Hundred Best Vacations for Families with Children" from the Rosarian Academy book fair, saw Mount Rushmore in the book, and told his parents he wanted to go there for summer vacation.

Caleb's interest and excitement spurred his parents, Jeff and Ruthann Miller, to MapQuest Mount Rushmore and the surrounding area and book a trip to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, along with Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons National Parks in Wyoming.

In 2011, while visiting their first National Park, the Miller family was introduced to the Junior Ranger Program at Mount Rushmore's education center. Each national park's Junior Ranger Program gives the child activities to complete based on his age. The goal is for Junior Rangers to help preserve and protect our national parks as they learn about nature and history and have fun exploring the parks. Upon completion of the required activities, children are sworn into the Junior Ranger Program for that particular park and given a badge with a certificate of completion signed by a ranger. "During this first trip, we were told if you become a Junior Ranger in all 59 national parks, you get invited to the White House. This put Caleb and Aiden on a quest to reach the goal of visiting all the National Parks," explained Mr. Miller who also said his boys are extremely proud of their accomplishment every time they are sworn into a park.
