Laurel McFarland
NASPAA Executive Director

Congratulations to graduates of the MPA/MPP Class of 2016! And congratulations to all faculty and administrators of our schools for surviving the academic year!
As graduates head out to take their place in the real world of public service, we can reflect on the fact that the labor market has changed considerably, just in the past few years. There is good news: as Governing Magazine reports in a fascinating interactive chart, local government employment in the United States has finally rebounded robustly in 2016, and state government employment has shown modest improvement as well.
Nonprofit employment has risen, both as a fraction of our graduating population, and as a fraction of employment in the U.S. economy. So graduates interested in local government rejoice: you will be experiencing the best job market for nearly a decade! Read more here.
