June 15, 2013
Greetings!

One month of training is in the bag and the CVTC team is looking forward to some hard summer camps.  The entire team will unite for the first time in early July and, shortly thereafter, head off to Salt Lake City for an altitude training camp.

While in Whistler the team is looking forward to connecting with the community.  Part of their initiative is to volunteer at and participate in as many local events as possible.  Don't hesitate to say hello if you see them out there!

Happy Trails!

Camps and Travels
Whistler Snow Camp
CVTC spent the first days of June skiing the trails of Whistler Olympic Park.  Although the snow was rapidly receding, the WOP staff did a fantastic job of patching holes and prolonging the grooming.  These extra days on skis, even at this time of year, go a long way to preparing the team for racing.

Team Cohesion Camp
The first official camp of 2013 was held on Hornby Island.  The focus of the camp was not training so much as it was team cohesion.  Mental performance coach, Shannon Thompson, took the team through a number of exercises and talks on how to best prepare for race season.
Ski Art
Liam Patterson, a new athlete in the CVTC fold, is also a fantastic artist.  He will be bringing his art supplies on trips and camps so stay tuned for some hand painted pictures alongside our regular photos.

Plyometric Strength
- By Chris Manhard

Are you looking for some easy-to-do strengthening exercises to keep your muscles ski-ready this summer?  Look no further.  CVTC Head Coach, Chris Manhard offers these two suggestions.

Lateral Hops with Jumps:
* Begin standing on one leg with a straight knee.
* Bend knee and push off with full foot ("sideways"), jumping to other foot about 3-5 feet away.
* Land on opposite foot, jump off toe into the air as high as possible before landing on same foot.
* Continue cycle.

Mountain Climber:
* Use a bench, concrete barrier, or stable chair
* Stand facing the object and start with one leg up on object, preferably at knee height.
* Use leg on object to propel you into the air without any help from the leg on the ground.
* Push off toe into the air as high as possible and bring opposite knee to chest before landing with opposite leg on barrier and other leg on the ground.
* Continue cycle with other leg.

Good luck and stay strong!
