December 11, 2012
Greetings!

With the first two NORAM races under their belts the CVTC athletes are heading into a long Christmas holiday.  Many of the athletes will be watching the World Cup events in Canmore before heading home for the holidays.  With low snow levels across Canada there are not many regional events to participate in so the next race action may well be the World Junior and U-23 events in Thunder Bay in early January.

Have a happy holiday and we'll look forward to updating you in the new year.
Canmore Race Report
Canmore Sprints
The Callaghan Valley juniors pushed hard and had a number of top-30 finishes.  The luck of the draw was, however, against the team on this December day and all four qualified athletes were in the same semi-final heat.  The final results saw Colin Ferrie in 5th and Sebastien Dandurand in 8th.  Stefan Sander-Green and Fred Weaver finished in 15th and 24th place, respectively.  Paul Dupuis had a rough day, crashing off the course in the qualifier.

The senior (and U-23) athletes did not fare so well and none passed the qualifying round.

Distance Classic
The long distance race was more favourable for the CVTC athletes as they pocketed their first medals of the season.  Geoffrey was the 3rd U23 across the line while Colin Ferrie pulled in a silver medal in the Junior race.  This places both men in the mix leading up to the U23 and Junior World Trials in early January.

Sovereign Race Report

The Callaghan Valley Training Centre Athletes started to find their groove in the second set of races this season at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre in Vernon, BC on December 8 and 9, 2012.

The successful weekend included one silver and three bronze medals and plenty of top-10 finishes.  Most importantly, the athletes could feel a difference, an improvement, in their performances from Canmore and the Yukon training camps.
